backyard sump pump floater not engaging

We bought our current house two years ago and ever since then we had multiple flooding in one room in the basement because the water piles up outside the window and won’t drain quick enough. After consulting we several people we decided to put a French drain in the backyard with a sump pump to drain the water out quickly out of the yard. All the down spouts are redirected to this French drain also. It works perfectly when we have light rain. However when we have terrible storms like the one we had last week in Michigan, the floater gets stuck and the sump pump stops working and results in flood all over again. We can’t figure out why the floater gets stuck. There’s no dirt and junk in the hole where sump pump is and with a push and toggle the floater will start working its way up. We replaced it with a new floater and didn’t make any difference. My husband’s theory is, when the force of that much water is pushing on the floater, it keeps it down and prevents it to come up and work as it should; so he thinks by redirecting the water underneath the floater or to the side of the hole where the water pressure is not directed on top of the floater, maybe is the answer. Any thought?
I’ll add pics of the French drain and sump pump and recent storm video.
