It’s not easy to update just one piece, but I think the table is a good choice. It‘s certainly not too heavy, feels more modern and light and will connect with your furniture. I wouldn’t add strong pops of color just for color sake, as you mentioned you like neutrals. There are so many ways to add interest by layering, texture, pattern, art. You could change rug to a less busy design with colors that better help pull the space together and be sure it includes creamy white to complement/bring out coffee table’s surface.
