We do this all the time...yes, you can come close to the look of ambered floor finishing film. There are some one step floor sealers coming on the market that will color the wood to give it that yellowish look...they are primarilly professional use products. You must follow stain application rates and dry times. Use a finishing system that is designed for product compatability.

Research these archives and the internet for discussioins on the pros and cons of each type. In a nutshell...'oil-based' polyurethanes can take a long time to cure and have a hydrocarbon smell. 'Waterbornes' take about 7 days to cure and the odor is much less. The appearance is different...research this. However, any good finisher can give you the look you want in either product. Durability of each type in dependent on the quality of the product. Oil-based is old technology while waterborne is relatively new. Good luck.

I have new hardwood floors in my kitchen that got stained the same color as the adjacent existing hardwood floors in my house today. The existing floors were done 10 years ago and had an oil based poly finish. Thinking about using water based poly on my new kitchen floors. Bona Traffic HD. My concern is they may look different in color from the rest of the house. Could the water based poly do that? I used espresso and Jacobean on both. Thanks so much!

Water based polyurethanes can be put down over raw wood. Period. That's what they are FOR. To STOP tannin pull (and nothing else) you can use a WOOD sealant. Shellac is a different fish...and it LOVES to turn orange...bright orange. Why would you keep trying that one?? Green is not part of pine's colour range. It is part of WHITE OAK'S colour range...which is part of where you are getting confused about water based over WHITE OAK... You have YELLOW WOOD. It is pale today. You can put down STRAIGHT water based (as we've been telling you all along). That water base will cause TANNIN pull. It will INCREASE the gold. You said you don't mind gold. So what's the issue? No one...and I mean NO ONE can tell you what will happen with YOUR pine, in YOUR country, in YOUR house, with YOUR situation in 10 years. You have a choice...put down something (like the Varathane Clear coat) or continue to have 30% use of your home because your floors are in a raw state. It's your choice. I wish you well but you are over thinking this.
