Comments (8)I'm not a decorator, and of course everyone's taste is different, but I have to say that IMO the best thing you can do with that entryway is demolish it. I don't say that lightly. I'm not generally in favor of major changes to a house's design. I think that architects usually know what they're doing, and we ought to respect their creations. But this entryway might be an exception. To me, it seems out of proportion and stylistically incompatible with the house, like a tornado lifted it from somebody's feature-encrusted mcmansion and dropped it there. It breaks up the house's sense of width and sweep, so the house looks awkward and cramped. I'm trying to think of a painting strategy or something that would minimize it, and I can't come up with anything. Maybe someone else can. One thing I would do, though, is shut off that light. Rip out the switch. It really calls attention to the entryway, and not in a good way. I don't mean to offend anyone with this comment. Houses are all about personal taste, and there are lots of people who I'm sure will disagree with me. There are no right and wrong answers to these questions, only those that make you happy with the house you live in....See MoreExterior Help - add interest to boring look of new construction build
Comments (14)Get an off white garage door that looks similar to the siding. Garage doors shouldn’t be a focal point. I like your not-too-stark-white choice! I’m in total agreement with every “wait for the landscaping” comment. An “almost done” house looks awful because it resembles a box on dirt. Your landscaping plan will make this look great. This is similar to people who are midway into a kitchen remodel and start freaking out about something small because it’s not done. Your problem is just physically bigger, but it’s the same. Start reading what my friends and I call “Garden Porn”. It all the gardening catalogues that start coming around now! Get an appointment with a landscaping designer also. That will help you “see” the finished product. Keep us posted....See MoreLevel differences for exterior stone on new build

Comments (5)Whatever the red cedar siding is on the front cube I love it. It is such a strong element. Your house is already two-tone. Dark Charcoal for all siding and garage doors but keep the cedar cube the wood stain....reserve the cedar for the entry. Black trim, black front door. No white. Here is a sketch of my concept:...See MoreRelated Professionals
