Poor Quality Travertine with Cut Lines

last modified: 5 months ago

Our patio was installed and immediately we noticed lines all over our patio stones. Our contractor ignored us for a year before we had the manufacturer out to evaluate. There are cut lines all over our stones where they said cut lines on their website denote the bottom of the stone. So either they finished the stone poorly or they were installed upside down. I can't trust the contractor and manufacturer because both of them don't want to pay to fix the issues. I'm going with they were installed upside down. After a year the stones are deteriorating from water penetration (40 stones). They are saying this is normal. The contractor dry sanded the stones with cut lines and some of them are now chipping. This has been going back and forth for 2 years now.

Any advice on what is normal for cut lines?

The contractor was like "I don't see any line".

This was the worst of the cut lines.

Sanded stone with a cut line is falling apart.
