Yes pink flowers would be fabulous! I love pink. But I like the hazy clouds of white flowers too. Campanula, this is definitely a weedy species, and makes abundant seedlings. Although the Chocolate plants bloom a bit later than the plain green species, I think the two are cross-pollinating some in the back yard. The offspring of the Chocolate plants (those seedlings showing up closer to the mother plants) all show some purple color, but usually not as much as the cultivar itself. Farther back, the green species seedlings are spreading like crazy. They are very drought and shade tolerant - also critter proof as nothing eats them. I've got them mixed with other fairly aggressive eastern US woodland natives like Helianthus divaricatus and Aster cordifolius and sorta let them have a free for all.

I've got the Milkweed (Tuberos & Incarnata) specifically so the Monarch caterpillars can eat it. They don't seem to arrive here before bloom time but we'll see. I got 3 little ones from nursery yesterday and one is already blooming. I love the orange flowers on the Tuberosa. I've never done this before so I hope all these plants that are listed as nectar/host plants actually draw in the butterflies. I also put in some things that do double duty supposedly attracting Hummingbirds also. The only Hummingbird activity I've seen so far this year has been two of them hovering at the garage door mistaking the dangling red emergency release handle from the open garage door for a hummingbird feeder...LOL. Scarlet Sage, Aegeratum, Fleabane, Nicotiana and a few others are already in bloom for them to find nectar but nada...they want those feeders. I realize they mistake the red handle for some plant to which they're naturally attracted but guess they get picky until they find the flowers they prefer or a feeder which they prefer above anything if given the choice according to people who have both nectar flowers and feeders. I put some floral tape around NE Aster because they were still attached and the downed ends weren't dying off. These plants are amazing in that they can continue to draw enough moisture and nutrients from partial stems and keep going. Couldn't find NE Aster yesterday so settled for New York Aster. Looking foward to all the very late summer/fall blooms since it's usually the time most things have petered out and the native fall bloomers are real powerhouses. Can't wait to see them in their glory!

I'm 5'9" and 'Phantom' comes up to my chin and in a summer that we've received scant rain and none in the last six weeks. 'Baby Joe' is a mere four inches shorter and I heap my praise on it for its darker more attractive foliage and richer darker bloom color, it's a gorgeous top ten plant in my books! I also 'had' 'Little Joe' and hastily had gotten rid of it after it went all floppy in a location with particularly good soil, I've regretted my decision after seeing it at a local greenhouse.

I'm actually going to start a thread entitled What Survives The Leaf Tarp and list my plants that do well. It's a surprisingly large number. The ones that don't survive are usually smothered/rotted, but this year I have realized that another big problem with the Leaf Tarp is that slugs are able to eat certain shoots so regularly that the plants are not able to send any stalks, and then die from lack of light. I uncovered some stuff this week and multiple stems had been nibbled to ground level. I'd love to know what other people have success with. It will be a helpful post for me.
