August 2nd Week 2024

We got rain. Lots of it. My rain gauge goes to 5 inches and it is full.

Great blessing.

But, getting to work this morning was tricky. Tom had to work too. It took him an hour because only one gate is open on Sundays and he kept having to turn around because other vehicles were flooded out. He goes in pretty early.

I knew that I couldn't go down Indian Hills to get to I35 and certainly couldn't go down Indian Hills to

Western. Western is always flooded, as is IH. But, I figured out an alternate route.

There's videos and pictures all over my "anti" OTA/turnpike group. This area and Norman has a bad enough issue with flooding when it finally does rain. Because it's rare we get the "right" amount. It's either a tenth of an inch or flooding. I don't know much about it, but maybe they overbuilt the city (Norman)....and it has to do with the lake (Thunderbird) and how it was built, watershed, and the complex tributary system of ponds and overflow areas. In fact, I'm pretty sure the large acreage across from our neighborhood was supposed to be some type of barrier that I don't completely understand....but it was not meant to be built up. Now, it will have a toll road and on the other side of the toll road, a neighborhood of tightly packed houses.

Anyway....it was crazy out there.

However, I do love the rain. Really love it. The only time I didn't love it was in May 2015. (I'm sure there were other times too). And the chicken yard and pen get goopy.

Watering? Not today. Maybe not this week (other than pots).

From the othe thread....

I'm a fan of pimento peppers too. The only one I've grown is Ashe County.

What will you be doing in, about, or around your garden this week?
