Bathroom vanity tops and MDF bathroom vanities.
Comments (5)Millworkman, I think I must have read somewhere that you shouldn't use granite on MDF cabinets Patricia Colwell Consulting, the vanity does not come with a top. It was just shown with a top. The Hayneedle website description said it was just the cabinet and it is just the cabinet (arrived this past Friday). Siamesey, I hear ya but since I spent a ton of money converting the tub to shower, I have to save where I can. Unfortunately, when you combine the needs of my mother (the main user of this bathroom), the style that I would like, along with the need to work around the plumbing location, I actually don't have a lot of choices. It's been really hard to combine the first two of those and find a vanity with drawers on the left hand side (the plumbing dictate). I looked at custom made and even semi custom made and no, I can't do that. Even though the vanity is made of MDF and is RTA, to me it has better quality than some of low end all wood vanities that I've seen. Also, most of the cabinets I've looked at still seem to have MDF in them somewhere, especially white cabinets which is what I wanted for this bathroom....See MoreNeed Suggestions for Narrow Depth Bathroom Vanity
Comments (8)Standard depths are going to be 18, 21 or 24 inches. You might be able to do a semi-custom cabinet with 15. At 13, you are talking about a 12 or 13 inch wall cabinet, effectively -- and they typically don't have drawers. I have drawers in a 15" depth cabinet that folks questioned the function of -- but I am very happy with them. Just make sure you have full extension glides. Mine is semi-custom so we paid a fee to adjust the depth and it was part of an larger job. For a single cabinet, I think you need to look at custom or get creative. Pick a sink and design around that. Wall mount faucet (you can do side, but that take up room you probably need if the space is that small and wall mount will make for easier cleaning). Depending on the style for this bath, you might be able to repurpose a piece the way folks have done with a dresser or desk except you would be looking at a console table (with drawers), bookcase/cabinet, display cabinet and working to incorporate a sink. Where there are open shelves, you might use baskets, etc. If you don't like creative, try custom. Actually, either will be custom. Good luck -- and protect the back wall from water -- tile or something....See MoreBathroom vanity material suggestions please
Comments (15)Jeffrey, if I go the route of granite I would definitely be choosing from the remnants for this reason. The undermount crud is what I would want to avoid. Porcelain does look intriguing to me for the children's bathrooms. I have found this online and at the big box stores. Is this a material that my local shop would have access to or is big box the way to go? For reference, I requested pricing for a 48" vanity top. Corian was $1463.68. Synthetic Marble $345.15 and a granite remnant that I chose for pricing purposes only was $650. This does not include installation. I was a little taken about at the Corian pricing. Is this in line? Let me know if so and I will take some time to accept it (0r not). I appreciate everyone's help!...See MoreVanity mirror suggestions and bathroom hardware
