Keep warm and mist them at least weekly. You can start watering the soil as spring gets here and the temps and sunlight rise.

"I leave about 1 cm around the body when I repot mine." That's what I tried to do with the rocks around the side -- shape the soil area down to around a cenitmeter around the plant, although I'm not sure how well that would work in the long term, and I don't think I cut the area down enough anyway. Anyway, I'll get a smaller pot for the A. asterias and see if the huernia will fit in the pot the A. asterias is currently. That SHOULD work. I'm just hoping I can get the thing out of the pot it shipped in without breaking it and having to reroot all of the pieces.

Is it soft anywhere around the base? Looks like it may have previous fungal/trauma issues, but that does not mean it is currently rotting. If soft spots, then that's a big problem and you may have to consider chopping it off at that point. But not if it is solid and the bottom does not seem to be getting progressively thinner, or changing in any way, actually. By the way, that may not be a graft on top, but a 'pinch' point ,common in many columnar cacti that suffer a period of no growth for whatever reason, and then restart again a year or so later. Some do that normally as weather cools down, but not seen Astrophytums do that too often, so I suspect got exposed to an abnormal situation.

Hi everyone! I have an Astrophytum myriostigma that has produced three flower stalks. Two of them opened up yesterday but when I checked on the plant this morning, the flowers had completely closed up. I have a few questions please: 1. How long do the flowers last? 2. Has anyone successfully collected seed and grown their own? I've done some research on my end and it seems as if growing these guys from seed should be easy but I wanted to hear any first hand experience. I would love to get some viable seed and grow some more. This plant has been through a lot. Earlier this year, something ate a pretty big chunk out of it. I didn't think the plant would survive but it's still goin...and it even produced these beautiful flowers! Thank you for reading my post and I look forward to any feedback!
