Compact Sectional/Modular Sofa?

Hi there,

Can someone suggest a couple options for a compact sectional or modular sofa? Many of the sofas we've looked at have larger dimensions than what we want. We have a space limitation with one of the walls being only 81" wide, and we don't want the sofa to extend beyond that wall. We'd like to place the sofa aligning with the yellow and green lines below, and would like to avoid a chaise if possible.

There are instances when a sectional makes sense, and truly is the only thing that makes sense- but they are pretty rare.

You will give up much versatility to get what may become a useless corner piece, and end with an armless sofa UNLESS care is exercised.........

Why? Which of the three below is more "forever useful" should you want to move or rearrange?

Here:

Never "stuck" ! It's forever a perfectly great sofa,

in a useful size and proportion, and an easy to place ottoman, leaves space for some cool standing lamps as well.

THIS below......?

At least you'd have a short useful couch......albeit loveseat of sorts, and it would HAVE its arms

it is NOT! THIS : ( BELOW)

Up to you, but all sectionals tend to have a price to that "cuddle corner" : )

Look at Room and Board. They have some nicely scaled sectionals. Good quality and lots of upholstery options for custom if you can't find a ready made option you like. Prepare yourself for all the 'I hate sectionals' posts. I LOVE my sectional!

Go to leeindustries.com. They have a fabulous selection of sectionals. The website will let you know who your lee dealer is in your area. I have a sofa and a loveseat from them. They are the most comfortable pieces of furniture. We will be purchasing a sectional from them soon. We got our furniture at Circle Furniture in Massachusetts.

Agree that Kivik is good looking, but don’t think it comes as sleeper sofa...? I think that was a requirement.. maybe IKEA Finnala could work- it’s not as nice looking as Kivik IMHO but very simple and practical. The foam in many sofas will most definitely be a type of plastic, so might be a no-no... I think OP will have a hard time getting away from that though..

IMO if comfort is a big issue then go sit on sofas until you find one you like , there is no way to guess comfort from a picture.

My advice is to go out and try as many modular sofas as you can. You should know before you go what size you will need. You can use boxes as a mock up or tape on the floor. Personally I would not get something too expensive as it will probably be well used and you'll want to replace it when the kids are older.

Finding something with the right dimensions shouldn't be too hard, but take time to research quality, construction and materials not only for comfort but long term durability.

My daughter spent a lot of time researching and ended up buying from Cozey, which she loves. It’s a Canadian company but has a U.S website. Each piece is an individual section, easy to lift/move (my daughter did on her own) and easy to put together/they lock in place. You can design based on needs and website is very comprehensive.

Check out IKEA. Sectionals - Affordable Sectional Couches & Sofas - IKEA

Add a matching large ottoman you can push up against the sofa. And also use as a coffee table. 10 ywar warranty. Removable washable covers. Pocketed coil springs in the seat cushions will retain shape over time better than just foam.

If you like the sofa that Slate Custom Interior showed but you don't want to purchase it from them for $4,272, you can find it for much more reasonable prices elsewhere.

They make apartment sized furniture and have sectionals with reversible chaises. You might consider looking at one of those options for a smaller piece of furniture to fit in your space.
