"Depression Thin"......I doubt they were hungry, do you? In a way it's remarkable they weren't heavier, considering their reliance on inexpensive, high-carb foods. But they also ate a lot of vegetables, soups, etc. And they didn't have fast foods, full supermarket aisles of chips, etc. See the "erector set" structure to the right of the Federal Building in the last picture? I assumed it was a radio tower, and asked my son to verify. As for rose midge they do cause multiple lateral breaks in my roses. If there is no available developing bud they lay their eggs in. They lay them where a new lateral would form or is forming. When they damage this lateral bud the rose send out another. In the mean time another batch hatches to bite this one. The rose responds by sending out more laterals than normal. The growth however of these laterals is normal in appearance. You can check for rose midge by looking in where a lateral would grow it is normally green or reddish green. After being bitten or egg laying the tiny tip turns black or brown and is crusty if touched. I'm glad for this update as I've been wondering how things have turned out for you. Thank you! No matter how much storage you establish in there or how big your garage is, if he does not change his behavior, there is no hope. He will only fill more shelves and floor space with more stuff. He needs to get rid of stuff and clean up his act, or not. When we cleaned out the basement after FIL died, we found that he had kept every old thing when he replaced it with new ones----------just in case. "Just in case" never came. To his credit, he did put it away neatly. I decided some years ago that it is not worth the mess to keep too many extra things around when I can go to the local HD and purchase that little part for less than a dollar, or so. No one needs to have their own store at home and I will bet that he can't find that little piece of stuff that he saved without some great effort. This is not a matter of storage. This is a matter of behavior. And, that is true of many who make and live in a mess. He looks quite cute there, like a little kid in his toy box.

Familiar? No, but I see a number of negatives in it: - The exterior is full of jigs-and-jogs, which will be expensive to build /forces the roofline into something complicated. It also makes the front of the house "a lot to take in". - Four (mismatched) doors facing the front will be confusing to guests. You could easily turn three of these into windows. - Washers and dryers are best placed on the exterior of the house for ease of venting. - Walking through the kitchen (in fact, walking through the aisle that houses the sink) to reach the master is just bad planning. - The master closet is bloated but well positioned for convenience for the laundry. - For all the space in the master suite, the toilet is crammed into a small, dark closet. - The kitchen is large but poorly planned /lacking in efficiency. Imagine you take food from the refrigerator ... you have to walk the whole length of the kitchen to get to the sink, which is usually the first stop. Then to the middle of the kitchen for prep and cooking ... large doesn't mean functional. - Is the back porch covered? The breakfast nook under a covered porch is rather odd. - With porches on the front and the back, the main living areas won't receive much direct sunlight. - The outdoor kitchen would be better placed near the in-house kitchen; you don't want to walk the length of the living room with plates of food for the grill. - Where do you see a TV fitting into this great room? The furniture will be floated in the middle of the room, and the living room won't be all that big -- the space in this house is all in the bedrooms. - All of the secondary bedrooms would benefit from additional windows. - The secondary bedrooms have an awful lot of bathrooms -- one of them a maze -- that's a lot to build, a lot to clean. Do you really want to maintain all those bathrooms? - Consider getting furniture through the 90-degree turn into the back bedroom (the master would have this problem, if you didn't have that exterior door off of the porch).
