I had a very clever friend who made a pine frame for my old ordinary, metal framed mirror 40 year old medicine cabinet....looks very "custom". I would find an old frame and have DH recess a nook between the studs the same size and fasten it with hinges to open... But in a place where I comb my hair, brush my teeth and put on make up I sure wouldn't want an old mirror... Save that for the dining room (I know! I have old mirrors all over the house!!) Linda C

sloyd - yes, I think you are right about building out the plywood. Though think we need to worry about an edge on the bottom. At least the glass guy that was out here already said that glue is not enough for holding up the mirror, need something on bottom (I'm sure clips would work but think a ledge could kind of disappear.) horsenemisis - the details for my inspiration picture definitely explain there is a flat piece of mirror between two separate med cabinets. that's what makes it so great since this isn't obvious looking at it. I agree - the shim edges don't need to be exposed though the only way to open the cabinets is by putting fingers on edge - nothing to grab very well. But this is a separate problem and I'm checking out some other hardware that may help with this. And I think you may be right about there not needing to be a shelf (scratch what I wrote to sloyd) - If my contractor (not the glass installer) agrees, we may go with that assumption. Like your idea about the white boards - my contractor is more of a tile guy than a carpenter so glad to have more details on this. enduring - priming and finishing in advance sounds like a good thing for me to ask my contractor. I would not want a TV in my bathroom. It is just too much distraction and noise for me. I used to have a radio, but that has gone now. I want quiet time when I am getting ready for work, I don't need one more thing slowing me down LOL. Do you find having a TV in the bathroom important? I don't watch TV unless DH and I are sitting in our living room. Don't have a TV anywhere else in the house. IMHO the bedroom is not a place for a TV. And to expand on that, neither is the bathroom. My TV watching time is planned in the evenings, and then only several times a week.

Logan: There is no law that says you must each have a mirror. I did all this work on my tile wall and didn't want to cover it up, plus two mirrors would have competed too much with the adjacent medicine cabinets, so I built this: It is perfectly functional too.
