What are you doing Monday 52024
Comments (25)Being late and catching up on 3 pages of garden web posts. Spent last week in Ogden, Utah on business. The week(end) before in Niagara Falls on vacation. Fortunately, we've had enough rain I haven't worried about the garden overly much. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to keep up with the weeds, although, I am trying. My son had to pot up an online order I couldn't postpone. The order I could postpone doesn't look like its coming this week - bummer, as it would've come last week and I'm tired of waiting. Got a different order on the way and one other order up in the air. Looks like I'm losing the battle against the Maple tree roots this year as I'm potting up quite a few struggling Hosta and considering renovating an entire bed. I'm finding some of my spin-out bags infiltrated with roots, but no sign of entry. Other ones do have sign of entry. And buying locally and planting other plants like Clematis, Lilies, Salvia . . . . Quite a few areas are looking really good and I'm looking forward to getting back out there this weekend....See MoreWhat are you doing Monday 62424
Comments (7)Paula, I hope you enjoyed your company. That’s a change to have kids in the house for a week. …..Have you tried putting cardboard down on your grass with mulch over it? I did that in the fall, so it sat over winter, and by spring the cardboard was gone and so was the grass. Made for easy planting. That owl! Awesome camouflage. Lindalana, I hope your hubby is doing better. It’s stressful when health issues come up. Sorry to hear about the extreme weather so many of us are having. We’ve been HOT! I’ve gotten everything I had in pots planted but have since dug up and repotted a couple that weren’t getting enough water. I have to find better spots for them. I lifted some hostas like the tiny Riviera Sunset to see if that would help them do better. Some looked like they sank too low in the soil after planting. One day I started making a new path because a shed now blocks the old one. But no big hurry to get that done in the heat. I put the Elephant Ears into the bigger pots even though they had just a little growth on the bulbs and no leaves yet. I hope the heat will encourage them. One that came with a little blemish on it was totally rotted. Disappointing because it was the only dark one. Ann, I see how far yours are up already! I’m hoping mine grow or I’ll give up on them…. Again! This weekend I might go to the air show at the air force base near us, but it depends on the heat and how ambitious DH and I are feeling. The Peonies came and went in a flash because of the heat. As usual, not enough good pics of them. Poppies put on a good show but are over with now. Aruncus dioicus (Goat's Beard) is doing well. Hosta of the week is Brentwood Blues. Another new one from Hornbakers....See MoreWhat are you doing Monday 7824
Comments (22)I have mealie bugs on a few plants. I grow coleus as they are mealie bug magnets for faster detection. I went to Lowe's to buy a hand spray style over a hose spray poison. Oddly most everything hand spray was organic. I have no problem with organic except when I want a killing machine. I did find Seven, but it was not really what I wanted. My son stated that the pot growers are changing the market. Get photos! Congratulations on the anniversaries and Debra, I hope you are feeling better. Nothing worse than not feeling well. Ann your dish garden was a very nice gift. Does it have a drain hole? If not, you will have to get drainage. 3 of them are very tender. The 2 strings and the toe. Eventually the purple flower will grow off, but it may take a while. Do not pull it. I do not know why they do that. The rest should be pretty hardy. Well-draining soil do not overwater or over sun. Feed once in a while just not too much. In about 1-2 years that pink guy will pop off. It is the make of the plant but the epiphyllum underneath is probably a Queen of the Night. The saucer I never use them. I have flat tile for plant coasters. They will freeze. Get photos! I was just outside (Friday) and my hostas are starting to show summer heat damage. Serendipity is normally my first to go down and it has started to show sadder leaves. Big Daddy he does not like the heat either. And it is not even August yet. And he has prime real estate. Get photos! I am still repotting but I wait to do the hostas until they are dormant. I went out and bought some cheaper purslanes and I am believing that the ones I bought last year are designer divas and sterile. old dirt I have read where you can eat these, but they just do not look tempting. Get photos! It is Friday forge day! I have become addicted to 'Forged in Fire'. I do not miss my job, but I do miss having 3 different machine shops to work in. Stay cool everyone. Get photos! I have placed a subliminal message in my post. I hope you see it. Get photos!...See MoreWhat are you doing Monday or Tuesday 82724
Comments (10)Yes, we all are complaining about our gardens and the weather……☺️ I think every August is like this. Hostas are in decline, bug damage has taken its toll, lack of rain and lack of energy! Well that’s the garden cycle it seems, for hostas anyway. My Liberty looked so burned in the sun bed that I had Bert move it for me out front where it will get sun and shade. I may have to move others or protect them with nearby taller plants. It seems my sun bed is a lot of sun. The only hostas that aren’t fried are El Niño, High Society, Nigrescens, Sting and Snow Mouse. Hanky Panky doesn’t look too bad. Gabriel’s Wing needs a new location because the small butterfly bush is just covering it up. Lots of work, and no motivation. Still living without a main bathroom vanity, cabinet and sink……long story but the guy making the vanity for us has suffered three deaths in his close family in rather quick succession and we have no idea what’s going on at this point. Still waiting to post when everything is done.✔️ debra...See MoreRelated Professionals
