IDK what hypnic means so I'm going with a guess: Those are the people on online forums that invariably comment in a way that is argumentative and often demeaning. I'm not naming names because in my experience in some online communities there are sometimes several people whose feet can wear that shoe.

First thing I thought of is the little jerk that can happen as I’m dozing off. Seems it’s usually an arm.

I suspect it's that spasm you can experience sometimes when you are falling asleep.
