kids/guest bathroom- tile tub surround or acrylic
Comments (8)Tile surrounds look so very nice. I really love the look. That said, I think I'm glad we have one-piecers in both bathrooms (one shower-tub combo and one shower only). These aren't new units, the house is 40 years old and they came with the house. One day we'll replace them, but there's no hurry. My daughter's rental has tile in both upstairs bathrooms, one tub-shower combo and one walk-in-and-have-a-stroll shower. We've used both on numerous occasion as she sometimes goes out of town on business and we babysit, or recently she had a new baby and I went to help out. The shower in particular needs all sorts of spot scrubbing to keep the tile and grout clean. My daughter is a bit of a clean freak (didn't get it from me!) and even she has trouble keeping up with shower maintenance. This really made my mind up for me for what we'll do one of these years - solid surface of some sort despite the fact that I love the look of tile....See MoreNeed Help with Bathroom Tiles - Backsplash, Above Shower
Comments (9)Will subway tiles at a height to the bottom of the mirror between the shower and the corner next to the vanity really add that much expense to the project? After having neither in my last bathroom, I am tiling behind the toilet and sink to wainscot height. I think it is really practical and easier to clean than painted drywall particularly around the toilet. (Also you never have to worry about painting around the toilet and sink area again) Where is the extra expense? All in the labor? Basic subway tile has a fairly low/sq.ft. cost....See MoreBathroom Tile Help
Comments (3)I have a whitish porcelain, marble look alike, on the walls. A very darkish highly variegated tile on the floor. I have a light gray Kohler cast iron shower pan. Its the sample chip setting on the "marble" tile. When I pulled the two tiles together at the tile place, the sales lady looked at me funny, lol. I loved the look! So I went with it. This is a planning stage photo, when I was picking out my shower pan. My "marble" tile is more variegated than this image shows. It wasn't the brand of "marble" I went with. I went with all 12x24" and staggered the layout in a 1/3 offset running bond. The porcelain tile I used had an ever so slight warmth to it in the clay body that went wonderfully with my walnut. And the floor tile couldn't miss with the walnut. Here is the "marble" tile I went with (not the other tile, but similar), in the 12x24 format:...See Morebathroom floor and shower tile
Comments (17)my grout on the black floor is charcoal. almost black. Mapei FlexColorCQ. the parts that receive the most water have turned grayish white from hard water deposits. the marble tile is fine. I love that black shower. I'd just be afraid of the grout turning white. I would suggest you use a water softener if you want this design. it will eliminate the spotting and deposits. and if you use marble, you can NOT use those Lime/Scale remover products. They do make beautiful black porcelain tiles like what you want. look into those. my marble floor in the shower is honed. my marble in the water closet is polished. It shows every dust mote, and every water spot or urine spot etching! So, keep that in mind if you want polished black marble! I used black grout w/the basketweave tile. it's fine since it doesn't get any water. (with my cement tiles on the wall, I used the black grout. charcoal for the floor)...See MoreRelated Professionals
