Used therapeutically, light therapy requires a unit that provides 10,000 lux and for the user to sit up to a range of 18" to 23" inches from the unit for a 1/2 hour. The light needs to strike the eyes. On the other hand, unless you are wanting to phase advance your sleep cycle, you would not want to use this in the evening. Therefore, therapeutic lighting is not suitable as general lighting. Remember, "full-spectrum lighting" is a marketing designation, not a scientific one. For more information, see the link below. Comments (29)Good morning, ladies! No need to be jealous auntjen, with that home of your and your recent CL finds. Allison, I'd be curious as to what you 'd have done with this lamp. I just LOVE to work with my hands and create stuff. You see it in my sewing, and my joy at finding things that need a bit of work. I prefer to buy stuff on eBay and CL that needs a little something, because it's what I do for fun. When other kids were playing with dolls, I was drawing (Jon Nagy Learn to Draw!) and painting on smooth stones that I found at a local beach. And once I learned to sew, I was off and running. Check out the faux lynx throw that I made from gorgeous fake fur from WalMart. I was surprised to see the quality, which was far nicer than anything Joann's had. I backed with with a solid fleece, and it's perfect to keep cozy and protect the couch from the dogs. Here Jenny is modeling it. Better pic of the true colors. The fur has graining in it like a real pelt would, and the spots are recessed a bit. I've never seen such real looking fake fur. The entire throw is 100% machine washable and dryable....See MoreAdvice on fixing a broken chandelier arm?
Comments (27)Okay, I realize this post is months old, but, I have a similar problem! I have a brass chandy- thinking from Spain as well- heavy on the crystals, etc... Pretty much like the original poster's. I have a similar issue as well- except I bought mine for 5 bucks at an estate sale and it's been in storage for 2 years. Well, I'm not sure if it was broken in my storage or already broken when I bought it (doesn't matter) but one of the arms that holds crystals is broken. It is solid- doesn't have any electrical running through it... Just need to put it back together so I can reattach it and hang the crystals. How did it get fixed? I've looked on eBay for 3 weeks with no luck. I'm going to start hitting up Goodwill around here to see if they have a chandy that I can buy just for parts- I'm to the point if I can't repair the arm itself. Any help would be appreciated!...See MoreDate this lamp (or otherwise help me find a shade)
Comments (16)Yep, there it is. Good find, and it looks like Lindac92 pretty much nailed the date, too. And it's true, replacement shades, regardless of period, tend to be expensive... Those straps you spoke of... I suspect their purpose is merely to hold the socket body, which is probably a non-conductive plastic of some sort, on that white platform. I doubt very much that the metal straps have any part in conducting electrical current. That's what insulated wires are for. Could they act as a ground? Technically yes, but only to electrically bind all the metal pieces of the lamp together so that in the event there was a short circuit, probably caused by an insulation failure, the rogue current would be directed to the ground wire, which is always Green and which leads directly to the round pin of a three wire plug. I'm betting the lamp doesn't have a three-prong plug, or a three-wire cord. Regardless, if you're worried about it, get it checked out by someone who knows. Could be an electrician, but if you have a lamp repair shop anywhere nearby, take it there, have them address your electrical concerns and ask them to replace that missing screw (or whatever) while you're at it so that the bulb will be stable when you have it all together again, ready to use....See MoreRelated Professionals
