I have been reading really old toaster oven posts. My wall oven just heats the house up too much in the summer. I would broil toast, roast meats and vegetables, make casseroles, and occasionally bake pizza, rolls, french fries, or bread, and would use it for reheating leftovers.

New models say they can dehydrate and air fry.

Is there anything that I have missed? What features have I missed? I read about an older model that bakes bread with steam.

Does anyone have a recommendation and experience with the newer models? How do you use yours? Are there any features thatyou do not use or that does not work well? I have read that dehydrating foods and air frying does not always work well. I could do without the dehydrator, but I need to air fry food, and would like to bake bread in it.

I am looking at Breville, Ninja, Cuisinart, but old reviews mentioned problems with the stainless steel and doors of the Brevilles.

Are there any other brands you would recommend? Thanks.

I just bought a Ninja one for $250 from Costco. So far, it is fine. I made brownies in it and cinnamon rolls but have not baked bread in it.

I have the Ninja 101, which is one which folds upright on the countertop. I dont find that the air fry feature works as well as a stand alone air fryer, but all the other modes work well. It makes great toast, air broil and bake are great and many weeks can go by before I need to turn on my ”real” oven. I've made banana bread and salmon in there; any regular baking dish will work as long as it fits.

If I were to replace it today, I would move up to the 300 level, while that model doesn’t fold up on the counter, it has more height space so you can more easily bake a spatchcocked chicken, or use pans with taller sides.

I just finished a new home build and also installed a Sharp drawer convection microwave SMD2499FS. I noticed that anything I heated in there never became very hot. Fast forward to trying to make my grandkids hamburgers. Didn’t want to wait for the charcoal grill to heat up so I tried the convection grill function on my Sharp. Followed the directions in the book exactly. Preheat the ceramic cook/drip tray, cook etc. while the burgers came out pretty good, upon cleaning the cook tray I noticed two diagonal cracks in the ceramic. I thought perhaps it was crazing but when I turned it over the cracks went straight through to the other side. The pan did not come apart, but it was concerning to me that this cracked during cooking. I called the customer service number and was told that although my microwave is under warranty for parts and labor,this tray is not considered a part. No one seems to know where I can order a new one, including the high-end appliance store, where I purchased my appliances for my new home. There’s no information on Sharps website for replacement pieces or accessories. I asked to speak with a supervisor when I was on the phone with CS and of course the supervisor was busy, I really wish I read the reviews before I ordered this. I really feel like I made a very expensive mistake. That being said, for those of you who use the convection portion of this microwave, can you use metal pans? I’m trying to think of what else I can use for convection cooking. Stoneware? Pyrex? I saw metal pans on a video. I also read that there’s a lot of sparking and potential fires in this, so I am concerned about using any metal in the microwave other than those racks that come with it. I’m feeling taken advantage of here. This company has the worst customer service.

It's really the install of the plumbed version. More specifically the need for a drain. That limits where we can install one, or we have to trench 10' to a drain. On another note, with so many models to choose from, I'm struggling to make a decision. We are going with Wolf for the other appliances, so naturally you'd select Wolf, but I feel like with a CSO, it's important to buy the best one out there. A friend who has an older model Miele said they rarely use it because everything comes out like mush. I assume they're using it wrong or possibly an old version that didn't have easy programming. My assumption is they are not drying it at the last step of cooking.

@funkyart - I'm sorry you are hurting. Maybe the walk will help? Stretch it out and warm up the muscles? If it persists maybe PT? I am such a fan. They helped me with a shoulder injury almost immediately and told me the stretches to do at home that worked. @Rnmom - thanks for the Noatmeal reminder! My health coach told me about that way back when I started this, but I had forgotten all about it. And as Sueb suggested - I did add some protein powder to my oatmeal one morning. That was perfect for my glucose monitor and my day! It just works for me if I do a high protein breakfast. Sets my day up perfectly. My blood sugar levels were better the whole day. I didn't LOVE the taste of it, but I think I can experiment with that and the Noatmeal and find a good breakfast alternative. For me, it really is key for the whole day. I haven't bought into the whole protein powder thing, but since I can't really do a lot of eggs and I don't like yogurt, it is probably a good alternative for me. I also tracked my weight this week and I'm not really status quo like I've been telling myself. When looking back over the last year, I am steadily up about 5 pounds and trending in the wrong direction. I think it's a combination, diet of course, but I am not moving. It's so nice in the warmer months when I can play pickleball for hours. Now, I'm lucky to walk 1/2 hour a day. I might need to seek outside accountability of a gym or class to really get back into it. I haven't sweat in months and that isn't good. And it doesn't feel good. I haven't read the MOVE book yet, but I can say from first hand experience how important it is to stable blood sugar. I can walk for 10-15 minutes or fast for a couple hours to get my numbers back down. And they're just not stable if I don't move. It's really quite amazing the difference it makes.

Nicole, I do like black granite, especially Absolute Black Granite, which is what we used at the furniture company where I worked, but I would prefer to get quartz, since it is easier to maintain. Here's a photo of the Vicostone Pure Black Quartz: which is my first choice, if I can get it. The Verona looks good also, but is more gray: but is close enough to black to be acceptable. I'll have to look at samples in person before I can decide. I did get a call yesterday from the first company I contacted (also my first choice), and they will be meeting with me tomorrow at 3:00 PM. I have another appointment with the first company that called me (my third choice, but still acceptable, I think) at 11:00 AM, and I think this gives me enough time so that the appointments do not overlap. Here's a kitchen that the first company (JL Construction) did that I like: I like the chartreuse color, but I still want to use red, with silvery gray upper cabinets. Here's a photo of the Cambria quartz countertop we had in L.A. You can see that this color has a lot of beige in it, as well as green specs (which matched the wall color), but it was not as shiny as granite and had more of a honed looked. I want something shinier this time.

We have the Breville Smart Oven Pro and love it. It fits a 1/4 sheet pan. It can toast up to 6 pieces of bread or bagels and does a really good job. It does a great job with brownies and cookie bars. We reheat things in it. We use the broiler as well. It can fit a frozen pizza. We have a separate air fryer… the Ninja dual zone.

We have 2 Brevilles and have never had a problem with either door or the stainless steel.

I've had a Breville Smart Oven for 15 years and it's still going alone with its tasks. I'll replace it with another Breville when the time comes.

I have the top of the line ( as of 2018) Breville. I love everything about it. I have owned this one for six years (and the previous Breville for many years). I take it to the back covered patio during the hot days of summer to use and to keep the heat out of the house.

I have a Breville smart oven and love it! It is a convection oven, but doesn't really air fry (IMO), and it's lousy for making toast -- but it's an awesome countertop oven. I only use my regular oven for large things that won't fit in the Breville.

I have the largest Cuisinart, the one with the rounded back to fit a 13" pizza. Works great, fits a 1/4 sheet pan. I've baked cookies, pies, and cake layers successfully. When summer hits we just don't cook meals that can't fit in the toaster oven. Like the Breville, it's not great at toast--very slow. That seems to be a universal issue though. The larger the toaster oven, the worse it is as a toaster.

When it dies, I might get the Breville. The Cuisinart has an annoying VERY bright blue LCD screen that never turns off.

That is annoying - I have a humidifier like that, and it would bother me at night (it's in my bedroom)......I had to put a double layer of duct tape over it.
