What about the kitchen would you like to change?

Most people recommend that you move into a space and live in it for a few months before you take on a major renovation. Here’s why.

I see a corner pantry that I would remove because counter space means more to me than pantry storage and corner pantries are meh. But you have a decent amount of counter space and might find you need the storage. You won’t really know until you live in it. I’m not a fan of kitchen desks and would prefer a china cupboard or a buffet in that spot, but you haven’t entertained in that space yet, and may not have a better office space in the house. See how it all works first, then make changes.

What do you like? I would paint out all the trim white and extend hardwood floors through the whole space. The kitchen is a complete gut- ‘dated’ cabinets that don’t go to the ceiling, corner pantry eating up space, and the fridge just tacked on the end. I would do a much more contemporary kitchen to go with the interior architecture

That great room is begging for a fireplace re-do. I'd so some type of stone all the way up to the ceiling. Stone veneer isn't as expensive as you may think.

I just heard someone talking about how stone veneers are coming back. Tough to believe. I would get a new firebox door front--get rid of the harsh brass but the rest is quite nice. The flooring in that room feels cold, hard and not in line with the beautiful wood maybe it's carpet--can't tell for sure but I would bring the kitchen flooring into that space vs the stark white. Where in the world is this? Your kitchen cabinets look pretty blah. The hardware-especially the hinges really need something prettier. I wonder what it would cost to get new door fronts on the uppers with the cathedral arch? The over all look could be much improved with little changes like these.

Having personally owned 5 different homes over the years my advice would be to live in the home for ar least a year or so to decide what changes you would like to make. Some houses needed minimal cosmetic updates while one ( I Ibought for its great beach location) needed a full ” gut to the studs “ remodel, but I waited a few years before doing it. I was glad I did because my initial thoughts changed drastically after living there for a few years.

These are not your grandmother's plastic-y fake stone veneers from decades ago I'm talking about here. I'm talking about actual thin-cut stone. When done thoughtfully and well and in the right setting, it looks terrific. Tons of choices.
