Everything you have seems to be safe and works with everything else in the room.

However, it's monochromatic to a fault. I would change the rug to something with color and/or pattern. I'd also add some colorful accessories--lamps, throws, pillows, wall decor, etc. to liven up the space.

Thank you for your suggestion regarding adding some colour. I think you are right about trying to be safe and the need to add colour and pattern to liven up the space. Have you suggestions about what might work? I am also wondering about coffee table and side table suggestions. Thank you!

If those are photos of your current room I will suggest artwork. In the 4th photo down the wall behind the chairs would seem a perfect place for a large dramatic piece of artwork. The room currently seems to be lacking something and the big piece of artwork might be just the answer.

See if you can't do a Houzz search on "Living Rooms" and create an Ideabook with photos that appeal to you. That will help you narrow down your preferred styles and colors.

I tend to lean towards a transitional style.

Of the three coffee tables you posted, I would prefer the second. The other two are quite heavy and bulky.

The rug is definitely too safe. Can you find something with a bolder palette?

Even though you say your style is "transitional," keep in mind that you can add some traditional items in the mix.

Diane! Thank you for pushing me to be more playful. I quite like the 3rd and 4th rug options that you suggested. I think with one of your suggested rugs, it will lend itself to adding further colour in the cushions, throw, etc.

Hi Winnie--I like the 4th one best myself. I'm partial to Persian style rugs.
