in my experience.. wild bird sown bramble is rarely worth the space it will eventually take over ... world domination is in its genetics.. lol .. if you want to grow berries... go buy a named cultivar .. and enjoy it ... there is no down side.. if you just observe this one until it fruits.. and then remove it if they are the usual crunchy seedy useless berries ... ken

By far the most likely ID is Rosa multiflora. There are guides on the web to help with a positive ID. If you look closely at the base of the leaf, where it attaches to the cane, there are little wings called stipules. Multiflora, and its garden hybrids, have fringe on those stipules looking rather like eyelashes. None of the native roses have that characteristic.

Wow, it does look like Virginia Creeper. I say wow because I have half a wooded lot full of Virginia creeper, always pulling it out of my gardens, etc., and in 25 years I have never seen it have berries! :) Dee
