Design Dilemma Paint Exterior

Hello everyone and thank you in advance for any feedback and advice. I recently painted my garage door using Giani black walnut wood look kit. I was really on the fence choosing the color and kind of wish I would have went with English oak but wanted some contrast with the cedar fence I just put up. I plan on painting the gutters black. I honestly can’t tell if I love the garage door or hate it. Should the trim around the door be white to offset the door and the black gutters? Thanks for any and all advice.

Post a picture of the entire front of the house. The garage door is part of the whole facade so it all needs to be considered. Right now I think it is too dark and traditional compared to what little I can see of the rest of the front. I might have chosen a color from the stone.

In general, you do not want to accentuate gutters and downspouts as they are not an architectural feature of your house. Based on the picture, black would not be a good choice for them, but as jck910 said, a picture of the whole house would help people give you good advice.

So the house was designed in the style of some Frank Lloyd Wright buildings. This below is the temple in Oak Park, IL. The house is MODERN. Black would be the wrong call for the windows and sconces. Bronze would be a better direction for your home. I might suggest warming up the color on the Dryvit from gray to a stone color. The house requires an extensive amount of landscaping by a landscape architect who understands how to do projects like this Don't screw this house up. Do some research and make sure you don't ruin what you have. This landscaping was all wrong for the house & if you're the one who had the vision to purchase the home, you did good so far. I'd be eliminating some of the black on the interior of the home also. FLW also produced homes in this style in Los Angeles.

Remember you cannot use acrylic paint on brick and now expect it to peel. Use a masonry paint to avoid peeling issues. You can do full coverage or limewashed where some of the brick color peeks through for a vintage appearance.

The two large windows that jut out, and the roof material above them, are of a much more modern vein than the rest of the house. I think that is part of what you are reacting to in addition to the black looking harsh. Yes, paint them the same color as the body of the house. Then see how you feel. Adding black mullions to them that echo the mullions on the front door may help bridge their modern look with the more cottage vibe you want. Adding corbels, at this point is going to look like - well, last minute add ons that don't make much sense. Hire someone who can do a fast and good visualization of the black parts painted the body color, and include the addition of some landscaping along the lines of what you will actually use. It will save you money.

Faux finishes are a lot more difficult to get right than people realize. I would cut my losses and paint the door a rich neutral color--- that would go with your black and white trim.

Do not paint the gutters black. They are not something you want to highlight.

I would keep the trim white to match the house trim, definitely no to black gutters, they are not a feature... strictly utilitarian, you want them to blend in. I think the garage door is way too dark for a light siding, looks like a black hole.

On what I can see of your house, I dont see black on your house. Leave the trim white like it is. I am very sorry, but, I hate the garage door. It looks fake, and isnt attractive.. I would paint the garage door, the same color as the siding, so it all blends together, and the garage doesnt jump out as the first thing a person sees, when they look at the house.

I know you prob went to a lot of trouble painting it, but I think a solid color to match the stone would look better

and please, upgrade your bulbs to a 3500-4000K led light. those you have are really yellow

(not being mean, but I don't think your walnut stain coat came out the best? maybe it needs another coat. it looks a bit splotchy in the pics.)
