Just ignore mean people on Nextdoor. I have no idea why they say that. It could be because someone named "Boo" or "Radley" lived there in the past. Fill in the bed to the right with shade-loving perennials, power wash the porch to the left and call it a day. The house is nice as is.

The exterior of the home isn't ugly, it just looks a little neglected. That's the Boo Radley vibe, it's not the colors.

Mowing, weeding, raking, edging and fresh mulch will brighten your home. Don't use the orange mulch.

Pressure washing the porch and sidewalk will help as well.

The round porch column was a poor choice for this house. You need a square one, not round or spindly. Probably 6”x6” size.

The brick is very nice and a dark charcoal sounds good for the trim.

The flowerbeds seem very dissimilar. The one on the left is bordered by landscape blocks (?) but the one on the right is bordered by ? And they are different sizes. I’d make them match, make the borders straight with the house, and clean them up.

Is powerwashing all the concrete in order? There’s a dreary look to the sidewalk. Maybe it’s called the Boo Radley house because it looks like the house is deserted even though it’s well known that someone lives there. The house just needs life - a colorful rug on the porch, flowers in the beds. Are there lots of trees in the yard we can’t see that makes the yard and house dark?

Good advice by everyone. A cedar post (or squared off cover over the existing one) would look great and landscaping would make a huge difference. Taking out those overly pruned ligustrum shrubs would be the first thing I’d do.

Your entry light fixture is so low, it looks like it could knock a few heads. Is changing that an option?

Regarding trim colors, keep in mind when looking for inspiration that your windows are bright white.

I'm going to guess the folks calling it that never read the book. There's nothing rotten, dilapidated, or malevolent about your house. If the nextdoor is just talking smack about your homes curb appeal, just ignore the ignorance and do what you like with the home.

If you are new to the home, perhaps the previous owners had a nefarious reputation in the neighborhood, be it earned or assumed. There is sometimes a house in a neighborhood that gets a bad rep as the witches house, or the old man X house, the house where bad family X the neighborhood gossiped about lived, and so on. Then new neighbors get the flack of the old rep, and often not knowing why. If that's what's going on- still just ignore it. You can't do anything about what people think about the previous owners.

Next Door is a viper's den. Ignore, ignore. Here are some suggestions to bring out the best in your house for not a huge amount of money.

Trim paint should be a very grayish taupe that harmonizes will the roof. (I can't quite tell what color the roof is, but trim paint needs to echo it.)

The biggest bang for your buck is hiring a garden designer to plan landscaping and hardscaping. The left side needs to be graded, and that edging thing has to go. Those two shrubs look awful. You could even extend the new golden flagstone walkway to create a front patio on the right--so worth it so you can wave to the neighbors from a couple Adirondack chairs that match the front door.

Look how pretty these curved beds look. They wrap around a bit, so it widens the footprint of the house. You don't need this many plantings, but this is the idea to soften the brick, which is actually nice! On the right a golden front patio seating area and front walkway will look amazing.

I would paint the trim a dark charcoal. Sand it good before you paint, and prime it good, and take your time, and do a really good paint job. (2 coats of paint). There is nothing much wrong with your house, except the landscaping though, and I see nothing about it, that anyone would even mention your house. Once you have all the trim redone, then start work on the landscaping. If you can afford to have a landscaping plan drawn up, that you can work on little by little, that would be a good thing to do. Also if anything is dirty, clean it, edge your lawn, if its weedy, use weed and feed. Clean and manicured is always a great thing to do. Wondering why they would even be mentioning your house on next door.

Whether or not anyone ever read the iconic "book of Boo" as I shall call it, and despite people do feel free to sound off on social media?

The first impression IS just a bit sad and neglected. But much of it is an issue of lawn keep including weed/feet, sidewalk trimming! A fairly simple removal of the 1959 dated yews in front, and a replacement appropriate to climate.

Some brimming and colorful pots at the entry! A black clear view storm and screen set ( match ) at the entry of a newly painted black door!

Much good advice above. You can distract the eye and revive the landscape.

I suggest these easy and inexpensive changes:

1- Remove the two old shrubs.

2- Install several dozen quart-size flowering marigolds or zinnias.

3- Pressure wash the front walkway, porch and sidewalk.

You can upload the photo of your house on a paint company website like Sherwin Williams and virtually try different colors for the house trim/front door.

The suggestions for a squared post, dark charcoal gray or black for trim/door with matching screen will look great. Add to it some pots and landscaping, new house #s and a spiffed up mailbox area. Your house will look amazing after these changes.

The front walkway would look great in stone or powerwash the concrete.

When it comes time for a new roof, choose a color that complements the updated house colors.

So sorry you are in a neighborhood that makes derogatory posts like that on shared social media. Seriously consider staying off such sites as they have more negatives than positives imo.

Here's a nice taupe trim color with yellowish brick. Again, notice the stone walkway, and planters as others have suggested to spiff up your house.

For trim paint colors: look at a whiter off-white than the yellowy cream you have now. The exact color of off white doesn't matter much, so make one trip to the paint store for a dozen paint chips and one trip to pick up the paint you choose. There's an excellent chance that a stock off white color will be a good choice because the two or three stock off-whites will include warm, cool, and barely gray off-whites as well as a blinding white.

If you are doing the painting yourself, do the most visible things first. Paint the fascia board next to the roof first, then the window panel trim, then the door and its trim. The sides of the house don't show as much and can be done as second priority, and the back as third priority.

You have some snotty neighbors. Paint it lime green, park an old junker car in the yard...that will really piss them off

Okibujp has done an excellent job of updating your home. I would use the rendering they posted as a starting point for making changes that will enhance your home. I agree with other posters about the column being undersized. If you ever decide to make larger changes I might suggest creating a new entry porch or element of some type to give the entry a bit more prominence.

Other than landscaping...I'm thinking a contrasting color... like aqua with a blue door. And a charcoal gray or aqua or white pillar.

@okijub nailed it for immediate fixes: well-designed landscaping, trim paint color change, bright new door, different column. Great bang for the buck. Find a garden designer to come up with a garden bed plan for your planting zone and light conditions. I like the rounded garden beds, which balance out all the straight angles of the house.
