Blank slate, small guest room
Comments (12)I agree, Lynn about living out of a suitcase. The cable for the tv is on the wall in the pic. Would I run it around the room to the tall window? I like the idea about the bed on the tv wall. I was thinking the same that the wall would keep the pillows from falling off. I need to be able to open the bed to sleep two people. So that would interfere with the long wall (short window). I need to get a small desk (love the corner desk Tibbrex posted). Not sure whether I could pull the bed open. I just had company for two weeks. They had to stay elsewhere because I didn't have the bed yet. Just bought it. My son left his winter clothes (we live in Florida) in the closet. All of that will have to go. It will give space for guests to use. The closet has drawers and room for a clothes and possibly my office supplies. I love the idea of a top down shade. That window faces West and gets blasted with Florida sun from 1pm till dark. The blinds on the window are wood blinds. Maybe I could get a small dresser or cabinet to put some clothes in but i think I'll run into trouble opening the bed. Closet, still full of sons 'stuff.' I could possibly add more shelves. Thanks so much! Jane...See MoreDecor ideas for small boys/guest room
Comments (1)Call me crazy, but I love lt lime & a soft aqua together. Just because I always do what I shouldn't (lol)..I'd make a wide horizontal stripe (maybe even using a couple moldings for dimension, instead of just paint)..between the 2 colors (as a chair rail). Then do the stripe/molding in a silver foil technique. You can then add chrome accents in lamp bases, photo frames, etc. Taking a pleasing color opposite on the color wheel-use that color for a grouping of 6 prints (framed in silver/chrome) and for throw pillows/rug, etc.. Crazy, I know....See MoreWhat Makes a Good Guest? A Good Host? Guest Room?
Comments (71)Well, that's not our problem, for sure. Our Florida vacation guest room has an unfortunate limitation that prevents virtually all abuse -- it's just over 7' deep by 7' wide, with a pocket door, 2 small closets separated by built-in drawers to the right of the door and a single bed to the left, window straight ahead with a little side table below it. For obvious reasons it's used by easy-going singles who aren't claustrophobic, but it's nice and comfy and works very well. Notably (aside from a second single bed, writing table, and reading chair of course), it holds almost everything that article recommends. Extra pillows and blankets of varying softnesses and thicknesses, bath linens, small space heater, fan, are all ready in closets that are otherwise empty for guest use. An adjustable reading light is mounted on a wall so the little side table remains clear, and decor is simple and serene. The drawers are topped by a mirror, and their top holds a couple of welcoming things, including chargers plugged in and ready in a basket. Most of the other useful items mentioned in the article, including toiletries and meds, are waiting in the drawer(s). No TV so far, though I would like to add one, and flowers stay outside, but otherwise... Once the business of switching out the weird jello-wobbly bed that came with the place for a good one with soft, smooth linens was attended to, the rest of the comfort was/is easy and inexpensive....See MoreWhat do you think of this guest room?
Comments (16)It's a really pretty and welcoming room overall. I'm afraid word art like "Love" is not a trend any more, and I would remove that and the flowers over the window and over the headboard. You could try a larger painting over the headboard, perhaps something with a little more color to give the room a tiny bit of edge. A genuine oil without a frame, perhaps a still life with flowers, would look lovely. Try e-bay for genuine art at reasonable prices and a huge selection. If sold by the artist it's usually even less expensive and helps the artist. Some of the Russian artists have very nice still life paintings. Here is one I bought, seen between the curtain and the fireplace....See MoreRelated Professionals
