Yellow siding - Painting Red Brick
We are interested in painting the red brick on the sides of the garage. We are leaning toward the color of the shutters and front door. SW Peppercorn. Any other ways that we could update the look of this house?

7 months agolast modified: 7 months agoNo shutters on your house. Why? Shutters are architectural and your low roof ranch doesn't qualify. I don't mind the applied brick if you paint it (gives a texture to the siding) but I don't like the farmhouse style goose neck sconce over the garage door (which is not in keeping with the style of your house.) Because the garage over powers the house, to balance it I suggest you paint the entire siding a dark color. That includes the garage door.

Comments (2)One of my favorites is Powell Buff by Benjamin Moore. And it is shown on the BM website as having brown as an accent color. Do not go by the computer color on their website. Comments (1)I don’t think having each half be a different color is a good idea. Maybe paint them the same color (yes, consider painting the siding the color of the brick). These homes have yellow brick, but they are more charming (sorry) because they’re one material. Landscaping would do wonders, it always does. Paint the front door a fun color, make the front more inviting. Inspiration for beauty, appeal and colors: LOOOVE the red with the brick. Comments (25)Glad to hear that mid century has some appeal. The main upside I see is that this entrance facade lends itself to a midcentury modern upgrade. Midcentury featured materials (wood, brick, etc) in honest and straight forward ways. Natural wood siding on the upper gable end, a midcentury entrance (door, more natural wood, lighting, and numerals) are relatively inexpensive upgrades. 7 months agolast modified: 7 months agoHouse feels flat and just needs more definition. I’d paint garage and front door a mid tone grey (which will help warm up and unify the house, given the roof’s color) and leave brick, remove shutters and add contrast/interest with some landscaping.

PRO7 months agoRemember you cannot use acrylic house paint. Use limewash or masonry paint.
