Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Vanity functional storage

Builder provided vanity is 30” and an upgrade to increace vanity to 36” and get drawers on each side is 300$. 6” drawers does’t seem to have much functional space. This is a Flex/Guest room full bath in main floor of a 2story. Any ideas how to make this more functional? Or is it better to take 6” drawers on each side upper??

We don't see a full bath floor plan, does 36 inches vs 30 fit well? What size and layout is the bath?

It is a guest bath......how much storage does a guest require, as they are not living there, or you plan to have someone living there?

Six drawers on your 36, both sides 6" will be very narrow, but a 300.00 up charge if you want them is quite insignificant.

Jan updated post for plan info. just vanity and toilet space is 5’ 5”. I do expect parents when they visit to live there as they cant climb upstairs.

Thanks again everyone. I finally found 1 tall drawer in my house. It's in the kitchen and the clearance is about 8" tall. Presto. Every "tall" bottle can fit. What a miracle. The drawers on the crappy low vanity are 7" tall--who does that? Just one inch more would have made a huge difference. So I think I may join Team "Tall Drawer" and also put pullouts under the sink. If I have taller drawers, I'm wondering if I could still put a drawer under the sink cabinet. Here is someone's compare and contrast My vanity is only 4.5' long so the proportions would be a little different. But maybe this last idea could work? What do you think? Then maybe a u-shaped pull out under the sink? Hmmm...I just googled and did not find anyone who did a u-shaped pullover and then a drawer beneath. Maybe keep the center doors and have two layers of pullouts in there. (maybe the extra work/cost of the separate drawer isn't worth it. Plus with the proportions, maybe doors-only is a cleaner look. thanks everyone!

In my area buyers want everything in the master: double vanity, large shower, tub, toilet room, and storage. But about a third of the homes in my neighborhood don’t have the room for all those pieces. When asked about remodeling, the realtors here are recommending to eliminate the tub, or both tub and toilet room depending on the space available. None of them are recommending a single vanity. If you are unsure about your particular neighborhood, contact an experience local realtor, and they will come over and talk to you about it. The local realtors are happy to meet with homeowners because it is a business contact for them, and they know the neighborhood.

Do you want to crawl up there every time? Your bed is right up against that wall, so how do you plan to reach your things? what is the height? if find some low, two and 3 shelf bookcases/shoe shelves to put items in small containers. Or I'd get some crate type storage, put is on wheels with a rope so you can pull the storage to you. If you don't care what ut looks like, I'd get sone storage totes on wheels. Just to make it easier to maneuver your things.

Sorry but it is guest bath The drawing IMO is useless since we do not see the rest of the space . If 36" all drawers is going to fit pay the extra . I never want vanity storage to be behind doors who wants to go on your knees to find all the stuff at the back. I use Ikea Godmorgon vanities for exactly that reason perfect storage. You start by figuring out what you need to store and honestly not usually as much as you think . If your parents are older the drawers IMO are a must.

You've not enough room for 36" vanity unless you crowd a toilet or lose the "drop zone" or something else. They will never move into this - the parents are short term GUESTS in a small space

If you can eek a pocket door into the bath? It would be nice to not have parents passing into a mud area for a middle of the night "wee"

You need storage? Add a linen.

CLEARLY..... a "drop zone" could go,if comfort for parents is the larger concern.

You could have a wall-mounted sink, and add free-standing storage drawers below. Our guest bath has a pedestal sink, we have a little shelving unit that holds the extra tp and some pretties most of the time, and when we have overnight guests they can put their toiletries there, and on two small shelves by the sink. You could also consider a medicine cabinet.
