Hmmmm...yea, I agree about the large bush being a Hazel of some sort. The leaves and overall form look very similar. What do you think about the smaller plant actually being a small Hawthorn tree? The leaves look similar but I don't think this one has thorns. Are there thornless Hawthorns?

My Duranta " Geisha Girl" are finally returning fast now after being damaged last winter. Best to attract swallowtail and other butterflies, bumble bees and hummers! Also comes in variegated form which I'd like to have. Easy to grow..makes seeds which are poisonous if ingested, seeds sprout readily around the plants and with patience otherwise, just some info. Jean, know that they're not to be chopped back like standard buddleia. Do that and it's liable to up and die very rapidly. I've had one for 4 years and it was getting too dense so I trimmed some branches out in June. Within 2 months, despite regular watering, it was dead. Had one at my other house, a young one. Someone spreading pine straw decided to trim it down and it died. Pretty flowers, not as pretty as regular butterfly bush and not fragrant at all.

Thank you SO much Garockgrower! It's rather amusing that I was all set to buy some Provider beans to try because they came highly recommended by someone on another list. Guess I already have them, and I'll stick with growing what works!
