Double Wall Ovens -- Advice Please!
Comments (22)We put the Wolf double ovens in our last house and LOVED them. They were the model from about 2-1/2 years ago, and they vented from the bottom. Has this changed on the new double oven models? (We have since moved and are looking at new appliances - top venting would make me look at other models and not just run out and buy the Wolf). We never had a problem with a hot control panel or hot doors. At one point we were getting steam in a door, and they replaced the door. (I was very happy with Wolf customer service) The convection was wonderful, and I used all of the other features and was happy with everything. They were the best ovens we have had to date. (The only other high-end oven we ever had was a Viking gas range in the house before the last one that was there when we moved in - I couldn't stand it. It had very uneven cooking in the oven, and the burners never went low enough for me) With the Wolf we also bought the bakestone accessory, and I highly recommend it. It was a great feature and I sorely miss it. The only thing I didn't like was that those giant pizzas from Costco (the big square ones) didn't fit in the oven. But those pizzas are so big I can't imagine they fit in any convection oven!...See MoreProfessional bakers PLEASE respond about oven advice.
Comments (35)LeCake, I am compelled to compliment you on that gorgeous cake. It is too pretty to eat! I have a Wolf 30-inch DF range, and have loved baking in it for nearly 8 years. While my size oven isn't relevant (because you require the larger sized Wolf), my baking experience is. I love to make layer cakes -- 6 layer cakes. I always bake using convection, and I never rotate the pans or move them, other than to put them in the oven and remove them. They emerge, perfectly uniform in color and baking height. Obviously, it's my job to ensure the pans have all been equally filled, to ensure consistent results. I bake my 6-layer cakes on all 3 racks in the oven. The Wolf's two convection fans alternate spinning. They turn on and off throughout the baking process. I'm aghast at the thought that some ovens' fans spin so hard they blow out the batter. Not the case with the Wolf. My cakes are perfectly baked, and I must say that all my baking -- cakes, cookies and pies -- is the best it's ever been in the Wolf DF range. It was a huge decision for me to invest so much money in the SZ fridge and the Wolf DF range when I remodeled back in 2005, but it was the BEST decision I could have made. If I were to move, I'd purchase, without hesitation, another SZ fridge and a Wolf DF range....See MorePlease help! Double ovens or more counterspace?
Comments (18)I think your oven wall design is fine. I just want to warn you - unless you and your family are short, a wall oven mounted under the counter is usually too low. Full-size wall ovens mounted under the counter are lower/closer to the floor than an oven in a range - are you sure you want that? When we were planning our remodel, I suggested mounting an oven that way and, thankfully, my Kitchen Designer advised against it. To support her advice, she showed us an oven installed under the counter - and she was absolutely correct! Once we saw how low it was, we immediately nixed it! We are a relatively tall family (5'10" to 6'7") - but as the shortest, even I would never want an oven that low! (You can see that it's a few inches closer to the floor in Matt's picture.) Note: I'm more concerned about your lack of usable counterspace b/w the sink and range and the fact that the DW is smack dab in the middle of your very small Prep Zone....See MoreNeed recs for double wall oven brand- GE Cafe v. Comments (6)I make pizzas so I need wall ovens that can go up to 550F - but I'm looking for a combo wall oven (top micro/speed; bottom true convection) and this is what I've got: Thermador Masterpiece or Pro Bosch 800 series (Benchmark only 450) Monogram (no combo oven, would have to stack) GE Profile with Advantium top oven KitchenAid (what I currently own and love but I'm shopping for a new build kitchen) Not considering Miele or Wolf but I can't find my notes. I think they were out due to lower oven temp. The rest of the kitchen will be a Bluestar rangetop (upgrade from our current Wolf range) and SubZero 48" SxS (same as what we have now) and Bosch dishwasher (we love ours, so quiet in open floor plan)....See MoreRelated Professionals
