Your space is, mostly, comfortable looking. My personal preference would be a lower tv but YOUR preference matters. "HOME" as one line, yes, but on two lines, your pillow says "HO" "ME". Cannot see the base of your lamp (?floor lamp?) on the left but if there is a table there or if you can find a narrow table or lamp table combo on which to set your plant by the window, then do. The first thing is the fault problem has to be addressed. In some systems if there is condensation drain problem, the power to unit and thermostat are turned off to prevent flooding. I am don't sure if that is what happening in your case. If you have a voltmeter you can measure the voltage between the R and C terminals. If you don't read approximately 24 V AC then that's the problem. You also stated the old thermostat was ripped off the wall. Perhaps a wire connection was damaged. You should also measure the voltage at the thermostat location.

I appreciate those who took time to provide positive and constructive feedback. We chose this house mainly because the interior layout and size fit our budget. I would love to build a home with brick and stone but the expense for materials and labor are beyond affordable. To the people who have built home before, this is our first. We want it to be a beautiful place to raise our kids for years to come. Sam, Hosta are basically shade plants. Some varieties can tolerate sun, but that means early morning or late afternoons when the sun is not too strong. Otherwise, dappled shade to full shade are best. The hosta in your picture appears to be in full sun all day and that’s the reason it looks the way it does. Hostas are perennials in that they return each year. Marigolds are annuals you have to plant each year. You could water this hosta all you want and at this point in the year, it will continue to decline. All hostas are in decline now. The plant is putting energy into growing roots and not foliage. Perhaps your friend can relocate this hosta to shade, even split it and then plant a perennial there. Good luck! debra
