Pliable Blue-Gray Filler in a New Brown Hardwood Floor?

last modified: 7 months ago

What do you think of a gray-blue filler worked into a brown, new hardwood floor?

Shaw Flat Iron 5 Hickory is the product, in the color “Sumac.”

Soft to the touch, having a width up to about one-quarter inch, the filler has some indentations, as you can see in one of the photos.

This was a new-construction flooring upgrade, having a cost of $26,000+ above luxury vinyl plank.

About 1 of 11 of the hardwood floorboards have this filler.

A representative of Shaw tells me that anything blue or gray in the wood is not normal and posited that this could be adhesive. I am not so sure about that. A warranty claim through the builder was suggested.

Has anyone had experience with this sort of thing? What is this goo, how did it get there, and why is it there?
