I'm a fan of Porter's "Beige Telin" in flat, (or flat enamel which has less sheen but is washable). I've also used Porter Cashmere and Palomino colors too (they are beige/brown tones). I think if you Google search that you can see pics of it. I have "plant shelves" too and I've always heard to go darker than the wall color if it's an accent.

Gray floors is a trend that is already dead. Natural medium stained hardwood is the most timeless flooring option out there- go with that.
