Feedback on Paint or Stain for hand rail and half-wall cap

last month

We are renovating a home with U shaped Stairs (or sometimes called half turn stairs or switchback stairs). Trying to decide whether to paint the handrail and half-wall cap white or stain a gray to coordinate with flooring. The railing will be similar to the picture attached. The stairs will have carpet and the flooring that meets up with the stairs is a gray driftwood (picture of carpet and flooring attached). The walls are BenjMoore Beach Glass (a blue-green with gray undertones) and the molding and trim are white.

Wondering if the stain is too much, too busy? Especially with the railing on top of the cap? I prefer a modern/ contemporary aesthetic. Thank you in advance for your help!!
