Certainly start by removing the rocks and the plastic or fabric that I suspect is under them.

If you possibly can, widen the path to at least 4 feet, and have it flare as it reaches the steps which should be as wide as the little entry area. That is a major start to making the yard more welcoming.

Rhodos, azaleas and mountain laurel. They come in all different sizes, so check that you're not buying something that will block your windows in 5 years. Get a mix of bloom colors and times.

Budget Friendly Ideas because they mostly cost your labor:

1. Take a picture from the street so we can see the entire house including driveway. also add a close-up picture of the front stoop.

2. I think there is some cleanup/prep work necessary before you start on the landscaping.

3. Give the bricks on the house a good cleaning before you start planting in front of it.

4. The walkway needs to be reset so showing us the front of the house will help with deciding whether it should go straight to the street or not? It's dangerous as is.

5. The large stoop looks to be pavers with RR ties? Or cinder block? That should be addressed before you add plantings that will need lots of water. The watering could compromise it. The stairs should be wider.

6. Remove all that rock.

7. Go to a local nursery (not big box store) they usually have someone who can help you with a plan and appropriate plants for your area. Often there is a nominal or no fee if you purchase from them.

Cannot really comment on any specific plants for your area but here's a look you can consider for your walkway and flowerbeds. I suggest you update your front door for an updated look, and white brightens up your home. I show a black railing on one side along with a large black sconce and large numbers.

That is a modest plan. You didn't state your budget. You asked for plant suggestions, as well as design ideas. That could probably all be done for less than $800, including the door, if you left the porch as is (or maybe upgrade it down the line) and did all the work yourself. You could DIY a better walkway for not much $$. Plants would be smaller in the beginning, thus cheaper. That is a very small landscaping and home improvement budget. If you only want to spend $250, then please give parameters on what your budget is.

I asked for a budget friendly landscape design. Not an $8000 concrete patio bill. Also didn’t come here to fight with someone using a fake name and a Taylor swift profile pic asking me the closest city I live to as if that has anything to do with my yard. Last time I use Houzz for anything home related.

Your walkway in small pavers looks like it needs to be completely redone. Either you reinstall the same pavers on a good base or you can replace them with large pavers as shown below with different installation ideas. This is a budget friendly project.

Then, work your flowerbeds around the walkway. You can start with new flowerbeds along the house and when your budget permits, ad-on with plants along the walkway as shown in the sketch above. Consult with a near by nursery centre of what can be done on a budget for your house. A few shrubs, some perennials (not too expensive) that will grow to a full garden after about 2 years time.

As for the door, if your budget doesn't allow replacing the door, simply paint it white for more impact for your house.
