Fitting under mount sink

Ive got a 24” cabinet for a 21” Tones Kohler undermount. Kohler recommends 21” at minimum. So good there. If i install the front edge right up to the back of the top rail Ill need an extra 1/2” or so to fit my faucet with washer and ring to calmp down to under counter. There are no faucet holes in the sink.

Can i cut out a 1/2” recess in the top rail (shown in picture) to gain that extra space? Then i have that ridge to set to front flange on without exposing the front of the rail.

As another option, I could definitely cut it from the back of the cabinet but then my faucet is getting real close to the back splash which will be tile.

Also, if i made the 1/2” cut i would have roughly 3 3/4” from the front edge of counter to the inside of the sink.

I apologize; I did not see the 33" cab spec. It might work, depending on your cab construction. The outer dimensions of the sink are 30.5". The inner dimensions of a frameless cab would be 33"-1.5"=31.5". So, you could fit it in there, but there would not be enough room for mounting clips. If you are interested, however, talk to your fabricator. I used a Sink Setter, and so did not need clips. You could readily fit that sink in a 33" cab using a Sink Setter. The contractors are 100% correct. While you can remove the silicon cauk between the sink and the top and then loosen the clips holding it in place, unless you get off 100% of the caulk between the sink and the top, any prying motion to remove that sink may crack it or the top. Also, that hole probably will not fit anything but the sink it's intended to fit. Undermount sinks are not universally sized and can have very individual shapes and measurements, especially any of the hand made ones. If you really want to use a particular glass bowl, then visit a stone fabricator to select your stone and have him cut the hole your sink needs and then mount it. If it's a small vanity, he may have a remnant piece that could do the job and cost a bit less. But, most of the stone costs are actually fabrication costs, so don't expect it to be less than a couple of hundred dollars.

Has anyone ever mounted a drop in bathroom sink under mounted.

Unless it has a flat rim to snug up to the counter underside, it can not be undermounted. Drop in sinks typically have rolled profile tops, not flat.

A 24" sink undermounts into a 24" cabinet if it's strapped, not clipped or blocked in place, no matter what the sink manufacturer says. Only the top inch of cabinet sides need relief.

If the sink material is cast uron, you can seal the raw metal with an epoxy paint. Couple coats.

The sink flange can probably be trimmed, but it's less risky and easier to cut the wood top rail of the cabinet to gain the room for the faucet. The rear sink flange can be drilled for the faucet hole if necessary.

Is that sink porcelain over cast iron?

Whatever material that is you are going to risk chipping, You can't use a ole saw, so you are probably looking at a grinder of some sort or a small cutoff wheel. Cast iron is difficult to cut. Curves are difficult to cut.

Cutting o the sink is a BIG RISK and not advisable just due to the material. I'd be more comfortable if you needed to do an entire hole, vs just a curved area.
