I have a glass bottle of rose water in my refrigerator right now that I bought at a local "Oriental" grocery store. (They also have other requested foreign foods. Another source is my local grocery/restaurant that features Lebanese foods and goods. Prices at this sort of stores are MUCH more reasonable than at specialty stores. The most effective use of rose water seems to be as a just before serving addition to deserts. A friend was cooking from "Flavors of Aleppo" and added rose water to a gelled confection but the scent didn't remain strong. (Yes, this long winter has been really gray and wet. Books and cooking and roses are alternatives to total wasteage of time.)

An alpine garden nearly in an alpine setting! Looks like a pleasant, well-labeled collection. Although some spacing issues are imminent, even though many specimens have large spaces around them others have another nearly touching them already. And rather surprisingly, some are having bug problems like those in the much milder climate here. I always thought mountain origin conifers like spruces and true firs were buggy in our gardens because the aphids etc. didn't get killed off during the winters here - but would in the mountains where such trees come from.

palimpsest, is the house you find odd the chalet-like "Swiss Miss" house (the one with the inverted V at the main entry)? I wasn't a fan either, but apparently it's a rather famous house -- there are about 10-15 of them in PS. The grass is the fake green stuff too -- it looked like Astroturf in person. rockybird, we'd buy something if we could find the right house. We definitely have our hands full with our current remodel, though, so we're not seriously looking to add more to our plates. Maybe in a couple years... Speaking of Neutra homes, a time capsule Neutra just sold in our area and we had the chance to tour it. It was the first Neutra house I'd been in. The house needs an overhaul, but check out this view out the kitchen window. I couldn't stop drooling... how is your pool coming, rockybird?
