Bland 90s House Needs Help!
Comments (13)Lovely home. Please don't paint the brick. The brick is attractive and goes well with the roof color. I would begin with painting the garage door the color of the siding and trim. If you are planning to repaint the siding, consider a shade a bit darker, and paint the shutters the color of the roof. I would remove the semicircular trim on the porch posts, replace the turned posts with 6-inch (or larger) square posts, and either remove the porch railing and spindles or replace them with square rails and spindles. Then I would add landscaping....See MoreNeed help with a small entry way. Need help with small entry way
Comments (7)I don't mind the table and mirror and can't really think of anything besides art that would fit on that wall. Can't see the table details well but could it be painted? How about red to match your lovely door? What would say "fresh and cozy" to you for that space? Have you thought of a new light fixture? A runner and a larger rug in the entrance could look good. I don't find the clock visible from the door to be welcoming so I'd be tempted to remove it....See MoreBland bedroom needs help
Comments (15)Our design style is best described as Cape Cod meets Coastal Modern. Lots of crisp white & light gray with warm woods & aqua accents. The 2 longest walls are both angled, so there is no wall directly facing the tv. I love symmetry so it drives me a bit crazy. We tried the bed on the wall facing the window and didn’t like it. We normally have a chair next to the dresser that my high school daughter commandeered for her digital classroom but here’s a photo of what it normally looks like. Totally agree about the artwork. These are all of the random extra pieces that I didn’t want anywhere else. Given the sloped ceiling & angled walls, I struggle with what to put on the long wall. A huge piece? Should I leave it blank? I know I need a bigger lamp, but that means buying a bigger nightstand I think. Both are cast off‘s from my daughter’s childhood bedroom and it shows. I hate the bedframe but replacing it would be such a hassle. Can I get a big king bedspread and cover it up the footboard?...See MoreHelp my bland house! Living room ideas?
Comments (18)Your look IS modern farmhouse/boho. Boho is short for "Bohemian" which is an eclectic patterned colorful look like the pottery from Bohemia in Czechoslovakia. I'm not even sure what "modern farmhouse" is for a reference, but the emphasis seems to be on monochrome blacks and whites and splashes of whimsy and color. You have all that except for the splash part, and this is up to you what you would find fun to put on the walls. The fireplace brick stands out somewhat discordantly, so I'd do a neutral light piece of art to cover up some of that checkered colored brick. Easy fix. I'd also replace the carved fussy doors on the cabinets next to the fireplace with something more angular and plain if I was obsessive about "modern" farmhouse. But the doors you have are perfectly "boho." The room looks lovely as is. Don't be so hard on yourself! Perhaps at some point the perfect piece of art may come along that speaks to you. Meanwhile you can maybe pick up something neutral and "modern farmhouse" at your local discount mart. Mine has lots of stuff like that in the home section. Placekeeper stuff. Inexpensive, big impact and then later when you have time donate to Goodwill and find that perfect piece at the antique store like Johanna Gaines does! OR, go to the local Goodwill and buy that piece that someone else just got rid of . . . ....See MoreRelated Professionals
