That does not sound like a difficult job. But, the hems would have to be undone then redone. How are they hemmed? The sewing to reduce the flare is not time consuming.

I have no clue the cost, but it shouldn't be alot of work. Do you have a friend or relative who might do it for you? Our dry cleaner also does alterations; you might check there.

Check on your local facebook or nextdoor for recommenations. The home seamstresses are probanly cheaper because they don’t have the overhead of a brick and mortar store and maybe even cheaper still if you rip out the seams yourself with a seam ripper.

You might see if Nordstrom offers alterations as well. I used to get jeans hemmed for free from Nordstrom I think if I paid full price. I think hemming at my local alteration shop is less than $20, as is taking the sides in on a shirt, so I imagine less than $50 wouldn't be an unreasonable expectation for that work.

The whole process would take less than an hour.

I'd try using safety pins or hand basting to test it first and see if that will provide the result you want.

Not sure but my daughter just had the neckline and armholes of her wedding dress altered at a Bridal boutique (can you say gouging/inflated?) and it was only 150.00Cdn so I would imagine that you should be able to get your alterations done for 50.00. I agree with looking for an independent alterationist, although I would definitely get references. My sister took her wedding dress to an independent seamstress to have a christening gown made for her daughter and she got the intact wedding dress back with the christening gown made from some cheap material. The seamstress explained that she "didn't want to cut up your pretty wedding dress!" Admittedly, it may have been a language barrier.

Like Tina, our dry cleaners do alterations. They did a lot of jeans for me.

I agree with Carol, only the hems need to be opened up, and you can easily do that yourself with a seam ripper. The side seams should be left in place.

If the pants are cotton, I would wash them before having them altered. You could remove the hems before or after washing - probably easier to do before washing.

What kind of hem is it - blind stitch or top stitch?

You could cross-post on the sewing forum and perhaps get more response for pricing. People do visit there often, even if they rarely post.

Think of it per hour. This should not take half hour..... Especially if you open the hem yourself. That's the most time consuming part. Denim is pretty easy to open seams.

Thanks, maddielee, I need crops, not capris. You would think a few inches wouldn't make a big difference but with my short legs, pear shape and long torso, it's huge :)

Dee I am the same. Capris look awful on me and I'm not crazy about them anyway. But cropped pants are entirely different! I love them - wide leg, flowy leg or narrow leg.

The flare is much more exaggerated on me than on the tall slender model with long legs wearing heels. I was trying to move out of my slim/straight comfort zone.

What's funny is that I accidentally ordered two pairs. The pair from Norstrom rack was $49, and the pair from Nordstrom was $109. I purchased a bunch of things in two separate orders and didn't even realize it.
