Paint Basements Design Dilemma

I’m adding a photo of our newly drywalled basement. I’m painting the walls greige (BM Revere Pewter, the whole house is the same) trim and doors white… far wall accent wall with black/dark paint and wood accent slats….
Flooring is a neutral beige. (I’m a boring beige gal!)
My question is: what color for the flat ceiling? It is not going to be textured, just flat drywall.
Same color as the walls?
White? (Trim color)
Darker?
They are 9 foot ceilings (one part is 8ft for duct work)

I think Revere Pewter would look good on the ceiling since you are doing a dramatic wall.

I do not think that would be good in a basement unless you have great natural light or even better artificial lighting. I see no windows in the pics so IMO white .

Are the undersides of the joists clear - ie no plumbing or electrical suspended below them? If that is the case, I suggest sacrificing another 1/2", drywalling the ceiling and installing can lights. We have approximately 6' 7" (finished) below our heating ducts and have can lights installed at the center (between the hot and cold ducting). Photos of our basement are linked from "My Page" however the low ceiling for the ductwork described above isn't well depicted except in the final photo. Good luck with whatever you decide.

About a year ago, we finished a basement for one of our clients who was turning it into a family game room. The ceilings were left open, and we sprayed them a really dark flat grey, almost black. Our client chose a blue/grey wall color, and it honestly looked great! All the imperfections of the exposed ceiling beams, pipes, wires, etc... they all faded in to the dark flat paint. The look was modern, contemporary, and not cold at all. Using the neutral tones for the ceiling and walls allowed all the game systems to really pop in the space. [like the pool table, ping pong table... I think there was even an old-style pac man machine, the kind that you'd find in an old arcade]. Well, I hope this helps. Good luck! Considering painting my basement ceiling a lighter shade of my walls

I use a lighter version of the paint color for the ceiling when the wall color is a light neutral. Usually 80% stock white mixed with 20% wall color. I have this done at the paint store. Usually flat paint for the ceiling to hide any imperfections. I like the baseboards to pop but not the ceiling. Sometimes white ceilings look stark and have too much contrast with the walls, especially when you have multiple ceiling levels visible in an open space. This works best when the space gets a lot of light and when you don't use white crown moulding.

I painted mine black and the walls dark blue. It really depends on the vibe you're going for and your tolerance for repainting.

I’d maintain continuity with the upstairs since you’re using the same colors anyway.

We ended up choosing the same upstairs colors for the trim, ceiling and walls, but added a black ceiling and accent wall in the main living area. It is not dark and gloomy at all! Thanks everyone for your input
