I have the Nutone 5000. It is an expensive system to buy new. I bought components in 3 different eBay auctions to put together my system. Saved bunches over the prices at the link below. Every item I bought worked perfectly- some of the room station units were used, but still looked good. One purchase was from a fellow who bought and planned to install, but was transferred and sold the house before the installation. With the proper input units, it can broadcast radio and music through the system- I do not have those units. Mine required special-only from Nutone- 8 conductor cable. Do you have a computer?? "I mostly want it to monitor my children sleeping..." Security, Video & motion monitoring software running on computers can now be had at a very reasonable price. Hardwired camera's are best - but you can use wirelss. But the static in the wirelss tends to confuse the system. Computer ON. Security Monitor program: Running Any change in monitored area(s) - (computer is scaning video) - the computer raises whatever alarm you desire. Look up computers, video monitoring, security, etc.

Try looking for the "Base unit" which is the one with the amp, radio, and transformer. It is larger than all the other remote units.

momcat -thank goodness someone knows what I'm talking about! Ok - so from the outside it looks like this. Except on the inside the tubes go pretty deep. In the upper unit there is a tube but we tried yelling in between them and no luck, probably due to the rusted out portion in the lobby. Thanks for your help - this is a really difficult one to track down, and unfortunately at one point someone decided to do a moroccan theme (I know it makes me want to pull my hair out) in the lobby and basically ruined any chances or restoring mine due to their 'creativity'.
