Comments (8)I have the exact same color thing going on in my kitchen. I am also a person who loves color. My plan is to use the backsplash tile to visually link the kitchen to the LR beyond and the attached dining room. LR is a warm sand color and the dining room will be turquoise. Tile will be a mix of the two, some bend of blue and amber glass. I think your most important decision is whether or not you want the backsplash to stand out as the focal point in the kitchen or if you want it to just be a part of the whole. For me, the splash is what brings my kitchen splash! I need it to be fun and interesting and more than a little blingy. You have to figure out where you are on that spectrum and choose the medium/style accordingly. Similarly, you have to decide how much color you want/need. For me, the stark white is just too sterile. There are some really nice "clear" glass tiles that throw a bit of green or blue or gray. Or, if you're drawn to the ceramic, you could get a soft gray or taupe like you mentioned. Ann Sacks Ceramic Basics has a number of really lovely, soft-but-not-pastel colors in the field tile. Sees like everyone who was still looking for a backsplash over on the kitchens board made a New Year's resolution to get it done, so there are a lot of threads right now. You might take a peek over there and see what people are looking at...whether any of it appeals. I assume you have already looked at the FKB and Inspirational Backsplashes slideshow? Comments (7)If you like the backordered backsplash, just wait for it to come in. December isn't that far off. If you are worried your GC will be gone when the backordered backsplash comes in, don't worry about it. Either ask him to come back when the tile is in, and withhold some payment until the backsplash is complete, or, just hire a tile installer for the job when the tile comes in (look on Angie's List or Yelp). A tile installer will probably do a better job than your GC anyway, since he specializes in tile....See Moreneed help pick out back splash, lighting and wood floor color
Comments (1)That is a truly beautiful and elegant kitchen. i can see why you'd want to replace the backsplash. I think you'd tire less of the lighter tile in the long run. For starters on the lighting, I'd check anything by Visual Comfort & Co from Circa Lighting. The light quality from those lights is superb. Also take a look at the modern designs from Hinkley Lighting. On your floor, you might consider a product like Loba's 2K Invisible Protect or Loba 2K Supra A.T. without a stain. White oak in lighter tones is very popular right now without any stain. Here's a video showing how Loba products prevent tannin pull in white oak when applied correctly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kbu7kCzd1P0...See MoreNeed help picking out backsplash for kitchen.
Comments (5)I like a mix of both traditional and modern. I think the proper way to call that is traditional contemporary? When the granite was being installed, the old backsplash was removed. I figured it was a no brainer to put it back in. I do like brighter kitchens! The granite itself is called faro gold which is similar to this: https://cdn.msisurfaces.com/images/roomscenes/medium/ferro-gold-granite_emperador-glass-stone-blend-58x58x8mm-a.jpg So should I go with a greyish that is in the granite? Also, if I don't install the backsplash all the way - should I stop it right when the cabinet stops?...See MoreRelated Professionals
