Home Decorating Flooring Design Dilemma

Starting to decorate our new home.

I love the color blue. We had our living room and bedrooms painted a light sky blue. We are going to put luxury vinyl plank tiles throughout our house. I have many animals and I'm tired of dealing with grout and trying to keep that clean. I would appreciate some suggestions as to what color tile I should buy that would look good with a light sky blue wall color. I was thinking about gray, but then all the designers are saying that gray is going OUT. Please help. I would like to get this done.

I have three white dogs, and I really don't want dark tile as I am vacuuming everyday as it is. What do you think of a beige color? Thank you.

Work with what you HAVE -- to be able to enjoy your home NOW! Enjoy your home at EVERY stage of life ..... and don't wait for the "perfect" time ((when the projects are so-called "done" -- because home decorating is an on-going process!)) I can recommend Alexandra Stoddard's book "Living at Home" -- has LOTS of questions to help you work out the vital questions: "HOW do you want your home to feel?? -- at THIS point in time" and "HOW DO WANT YOUR HOME TO work for you NOW" Write these things down -- go through the house room-by-room!

I read an article on this site not long ago (can't remember where now) that I thought gave some good advice. Buy a couple of high quality pieces. Really nice sofa and chair for example in a neutral color. Then accessorize and add color with less expensive pillows and smaller more original pieces from flea markets as others have suggested or even second hand stores. If you spend some time browsing photos on Houzz and start an idea book you will soon see the similarities in what you like or don't like. Even colors you gravitate towards. So you could get some nice pieces and ideas from Ethan Allen but don't buy everything from them. Fill in with less expensive and unique pieces. It will keep the room from looking like a showroom. Also once you pick fabrics or pillows you like paint stores (at least my local SW) is great about helping pick out paint colors. I think you could very well pull a room together based on an inspiration photo and help from furniture and paint stores. I am no whiz at decorating but I have learned a lot from reading these forums. They probably put plywood in middle to save $, knowing they’d carpet stairs. My FIL did this in hallway and I hate it b/c if you don’t want carpet, then you have to redo or restain that section. He’s enjoyed it for 50+ years so who cares about next buyer, ha. It is a money saving strategy that allows you to spend more on a runner and those bars some people use to secure runners. Have you ever priced those? Not cheap!

I find new bedding is where it is best to start the decor part of a bedroom. The bedding you have is fine, but really I think you could do better with that nice bed and other pieces I see. If you want navy accents then find bedding you love with the color from the headboard and navy. I would help with that but for some reason my computer does not want to post pics this morning. I would look for bedding that has those 2 colors and maybe a yellow or lime for the other accent. I love drapes in bedrooms so once you have decided on bedding then add those.

Yes - what rooms is new flooring being installed in? If it includes kitchen, take a cabinet door to store to see it against colors. Bring samples home. Order a box of of one you like the best & look at planks in all the rooms the new flooring will be installed in. Then decide. Whatever color you choose - you’ll still have the dog hair - you just won’t see it as much with lighter color. There are lighter tones other than gray & beige.

Just about any that isn't gray, and isn't overly red. You want the color of real wood. You go shopping and you bring home samples.

When you have narrowed it down? You buy a FULL box of any, before you place an order for a full quantity.

Remember.........blue walls are not a great idea in every single room of the house - there are many ways to have blue, and plenty of blue. Rugs, art, upholstery etc.

I will wait for some pics and some ansers . IMO there is no such thing as a color being in or out. If you love coolo colors more than warm they gray is a perfect color . I have a lot of gray in my home becuse anything remortel beige is IMO horrible. But we have to see your space and BTW I have 3 huge dogs and LVP in my walkout where they come and go all the time through a doggie door . I have washable hall runner and a mat by the door that catches at least 50% 0f the mud usually the rest a quick mop up works . I have to say I do not like blues usually in main living spaces but I aslo think if you love it then go for it. I do need to see your space please . Post the pics here in a comment DO NOT start another post.

I will just continue to do what I like because I get different opinions from everyone which if fine, but it does not help me. Thank you all for your replies.
