Wall mounted art light placement for 10' ceilings

last month

Our intertior designer has picked a couple of spots for us to put some art. They have spec'd art lights for these locations to be 9' off the ground for 10' ceilings. I was reading online that the rule of thumb would be to put the piece of art 5-10" below the art light.

If we also want to put the middle of the piece around 60" (I dont know - but another rule of thumb i have seen) - then the art piece would have to be around 76-86" tall? That seems like a huge piece, and while there is room on the wall this is definetly larger than I had originally thought.

I think this would also only work for portrait aspect ratio pieces?

I am open to any thoughts/comments! Thanks!
