onedogedie - the old built-in cabinet im still struggling to find a spot for it. Its a beautiful piece original to the house. The space where I want to re-build-it-in is a structural wall so it will take a lot of work. Its just sitting in the dining room for now. lynn2006 - I did the design and install myself. The cabs are American Woodmark Reading Maple in Linen. The uppers are 42" tall. The top shelf is really unusable unless you are on a stool. (My ceilings are 9' tall) They come with 3 movable shelves but you could but in as many an u want. The center divider is dictated by the width of the cabinet; I think 36" or wider has the center divider. The upper cabinet to the right of the stove has a divider; note this cabinet I revered the door swing to make things look a little better (its actually a single cabinet w 2 doors) Here are the cabinet pulls "Satin Nickel Euro Style Cabinet Bar Pulls #161-128SN" I bought on ebay from CABINET HARDWARE 4 LESS; they are great. Cabinets are 6 5/8" and the drawers are wider. Under-cabinet lighting I used Warm White 3100K strip LEDs from LEDwholesalers on amazon with a "Dimming Transformer 40watt" also amazon. Its hard wired to a dimmable light switch. Faucet is Moen 7185CSL blfenton - The squares in the island drawers are thru pegs made from scraps from the walnut counter top

Are those new cabinets? Existing just painted? Existing refaced? What and whom did you hire to do the work? What exactly did they do? Not excusing the poor work but context is needed to offer help with your next steps.

@User—I really love the counters. They are pretty bulletproof compared to what i have had before. I will say that the swirlier, cloudier Taj Mahal quartzite is harder to find than the more linear slabs that seem to be prevalent. My original slabs were the more linear ones. it turned out to become problematic with an L and island setup in terms of laying out the slabs. A fortunate turn of events occurred when the cabinet manufacturer made my island a few inches wider than they should have been. So i needed to choose new slabs and when i went back to the stoneyard, they had some of the cloudier ones. i grabbed them. Luckily, the stoneyard works closely with my fabricator, so they agreed to pick them up and swap them out. So bottom line is that if you want the cloudier slabs, you may need to be patient and look around at several yards.

Retro-futurism made me think of Googie style. That was more an architectural trend than an interior design trend, but here's a thread about a vintage Googie-style kitchen. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/2673961/googie-kitchen-time-capsule I'm not suggesting orange laminate (unless that's your thing), but the use of radiused corners on the cabinets and counters is pretty cool. Unfortunately, searching for "Googie kitchen" turns up a lot of stuff that isn't Googie and very little that is.
