Comments (33)It's the "black glaze" part that I'd eliminate. Glazing like that has a tendency to make the cabinet just look shabby and old. There's enough going on with the gray stain on the wood, no need for glaze too. You also better make sure you will be comfortable with the variegations in the wood which will come to the surface with that wash. See on the sample pic you posted of the Snowbank door how the vertical, horizontal, and center panel pieces look so different from each other? Make sure you see it IRL and imagine that all over your kitchen. Some people--maybe you--might say "how charming, I love that". Others might not. Comments (25)Thank you for all the great examples. This is the stove we are putting in, with soapstone counters. Don’t love stark white for cabinets and husband doesn’t like gray-trying to find a creamy cabinet color that doesn’t lean to yellow. Color consultant suggested BM linen white. Comments (11)This thread has everything you ever wanted to know and more about remodeling a kitchen:) https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5500754/new-to-kitchens-read-me-first#n=894 The biggest problem with your present layout is the closeness of the range to the sink. The idea of changing your french door to a single is something to consider. To keep cost down you will want to avoid moving appliances, but that range needs to either move farther down the counter from the sink, or over to the center of fridge wall - moving the fridge to the end of the sink counter. That is what I have and I like it very much, but your eating area is right there and in your case the fridge might protrude out into the flow of traffic. You can do a counter depth fridge and encase it so it doesn't look bad from the side. If you move the range down, you will need to change the french door for sure as you really want 4 - 5 ft between range and sink and get the dishwasher next to the sink. A corner sink is not ideal and I would not do that. I am not really seeing enough room for a stovetop / wall oven layout. I would like to do that too - just no where to put the wall oven. Don't even worry about backsplash till the counters are in. It is perfectly acceptable to not have a tile backsplash at all and do as you have now if you prefer. I have white appliances (very ordinary ones) but I have stained wood cabinetry. Is there a reason you want painted cabinets? Warm wood is returning to style and would look pretty with raised panel doors....See MoreKitchen cabinet color with white appliances
Comments (12)You need to decide your new floor first. The color of that will influence the paint job on the cabinets. Even if you want a “blue kitchen” the shade of blue will have to play well with the floor. Is this floor going to be throughout the rest of the house or just in this room? Tile or wood? Terrazzo? Do you absolutely want a certain color in the kitchen so the floor needs to make that color look good? These are two critical choices in the beginning. Scour photos on Houzz to see which kitchens with white appliances appeal to you. Beverly showed you several beautiful ones. Your white appliances are pretty and are as neutral as stainless. Since any color can work, find what you love. After floors, and cabinet paint color, you can consider countertops but start thinking now about what material appeals to you. Granite? Quartz? Soapstone? If there is a stone yard you can visit, that may give you an inspiration. When I redid my kitchen, the end result looked A LOT like photos I saved from Houzz. The pictures you like will narrow down your preferences and make this project less overwhelming. There are a lot of Houzzers here to help but you have to have a vision for the end result to make you happy. W...See MoreRelated Professionals
