This won't go up in flames, will it?
Comments (8)Thanks for the input, everyone. So far, I haven't had any problems with damping off (knock on wood). But maybe I'll open my foam doors during the day when it's warmer, and close them up at night when they could use the extra protection. The picture is a little deceiving in that it makes the top look more "closed" than it is. But I'd hate to lose 14 tomato seedlings that are doing beautifully at the moment. Larry, my set-up is out in my garden shed, unheated, which is why I wanted to add a little insulation. This seems to be working good. And yes, it was refreshing building something with duct tape! LOL My first idea had been to make a box out of some scrap wood I've got, then cover it with foil. When I saw that the 4X8 sheet of foam insulation was only $8 I decided I could "splurge". It was worth it!...See MoreDesert Rose won't grow, won't flower
Comments (20)Hi guys thanks for all your help- I am not going to repost in the other forum at this time b/c I think I got some very good information here. I went to walmart today and they were out of cactus mix. Sigh. They did have a bag of perlite tho- but I wanted to check with you guys first if this is the correct thing to buy, and if so- what do I do with it. I have a bag of miracle grow potting soil- I am assuming I need to mix these two together. I also have some small gravel- about bean sized. I plan to put him in a terra cotta pot since plastic holds the water and doesn't breath. I could use some instructions on the dirt mix tho- and as an aside- I purchased a succulent that needs to be repotted- do I use the same type of soil for him? I also have two lemon trees I grew from seed that I wanted to put into citrus mix, however they didn't even carry that this year. No they don't ever grow lemons, sometimes they flower but that's ok- the leaves smell really nice....See MoreWhy won't my cabinet paint dry?
Comments (11)Ah FRAK...I forgot to call ACE today....Felgerkarb!!! (think Old-school Battlestar G. here....;-)) I'll do it Wed.!! Brick- I checked the FPE "Specifiers" manual (anyone can request one of these...just call-'em!), and their ECO series paint. * ECO is best for the "smooth-finish" result. * Available in Brilliant (Gloss), and Satin. * There's a REAL RICH looking "Dutch Chocolate", and an "Espresso" color! They also state "...available in White; 7,000 FPE Colors; 3,000 Pantone colors; and unlimited custom-tinted colors." * They do stress a clean, prepped surface...big shock there!! For optimal smoothness and gloss, they suggest a sanded primer layer using their ECO primer, or, FPE Oil-primer/Undercoat. >>> Two REAL COOL things about this paint (for a paint-geek like me...): 1) It's a TWO-BASE system. Not the typical 3 or 4 tint-base system in North American paint. 2) The colorants themselves! * The pigments (and paint resins) are MUCH more finely-ground than normal. * Instead of real "liquidy" colorants, FPE's are more "paste-like"...VERY concentrated. * This adds to the incredible depth-of-color, leveling capabilities, durability, and gloss levels achieveable with this stuff. Soooo...all this means is...you get a fairly fast, smoother, harder-curing film! Comments (6)Gardengal48 - I looked up Solanum viarum. The leafy parts are similar, having thorns. But I wonder if I should be seeing any of the "fruit" growth yet (or if I'm just pulling them before they reach that level of maturity). Another point of note, the root system of Solanum viarum appears to be a (what I would call) ball root system. I just dug one up that had a singular root stem with about 6 branches (straight up, none were branching out) that was about 10 inches deep. I should mention that the root snapped off at ten inches, there was more deeper. But being I am in north Texas, we have this black clay about 3 inches below the surface. Making the act of pulling any root... tedious to say the least. In any regard, I will pick up some Glyphosate and treat the affected areas. I'm not worried so much about it killing the Bermuda in those locations (as it is Bermuda and grows back in fairly quickly). However, I wonder if I should be concerned about run off. Since I water my yard about 3 times a week - should I hold off on watering until this nuisance is eradicated?...See MoreRelated Professionals
