That combination of lgreen, purple and berry in your picture is lovely, Lavender! I agree with the inspirational nature of clean and organized, that seems to be a unifying principle in these thoughts and comments. Regardless of what we have, want, or plan to get, it is far more enjoyable if it's well organized. The past three weeks our vacationing son has been cleaning out our storage basement (my decorative accessories graveyard, lol) and the local thrift shop that supports our women's shelter has a new "boutique" annex that is stocked with the five full size pickup trucks of stuff he has taken there and all the stuff everyone else has donated after Christmas.... Houses all over town are getting cleared out. In one way it's embarrassing to think we've accumulated that much stuff we no longer need or use, but I am grateful it will go to good use--- in someone else's home looking lovely (if slightly outdated) and whose sale will benefit women in my own community. Our long time housekeeper has finally retired :-( We've been making do with her granddaughter, who is NOT a long term solution. So I am now faced with finding another person who can do the same job, or at least attempt it. I am biting my tongue looking at all the cobwebs and fingerprints.

If I was going through the effort and expense to have 2 baths instead of 1, I'd probably want hers to be really feminine and his to be really masculine with maybe a common color thread running through both so they tie together. I also prefer warm colors to cool colors in a bath in that I think they make you look better when you look in the mirror...no green that casts a sickly green glow on your skin... So if it were my bath, I'd go with something relaxing and monochrome and feminine like this one. I like white appliances in some designs, but I like SS or black or some other actual color with medium-toned wood. I just think it looks more elegant. Try to picture prospect's kitchen with white appliances. I think the effect would be jarring. I like medium-dark counters, with a mellow medium toned BS (as someone has said, white would be too stark), with your medium wood and medium floors. Then medium toned SS appliances work. Just my taste, I'm not a design guru by any means. What seems quiet and elegant to me certainly could seem boring to many others. Of course, ceran cooktops, whether induction or radiant, are usually black, as are the windows of many ovens, so even with SS appliances,you'll have black in the design.

Whoa boxer, that range hood on the second one looks insanely far forward and low! Eek, I would be worried I would crank my head on that over and over. Talk about form over function with that one. Dilly: I love the idea of a lighter counter sitting atop your wood cabinets. I agree though that if you're worried about it looking too cigar boxy you should include some type of painted cabinetry somewhere. I feel that your inspiration photo is basically a white kitchen utilizing dark wood elements to bring it some tone. As far as radiant heat goes, I know it feels great and does heat the room well. But you're going to have to weigh if you really want tile over wood. Tile can be unforgiving on your feet and especially on your dishes if dropped. Personally I find tile floors in kitchens to be too hard for my tastes, even though my floors are hickory (an extremely hard wood). Something about wood just feels more homey. Also, I don't know what era your home is from, but if you're in a bit of an older home, wood might 'fit' better. Good luck with everything!
