Comments (15)If you do try to split the order with your son, there’s no guarantee that you’ll get tile from the same glazing/firing. Not a problem if you don’t mind variability, but you could end up with essentially two different tiles. @Beth H is correct, Fireclay Tile will cost as much, as will any handmade tile. Here is Heron Blue G65. I actually agree with @arch13, but if you want other options in a “similar“ blue, consider the Diesel Camp Blue Rock 4” x 12” ceramic tile at TileBar. It is similar in size and color, but not even close in terms of the translucent quality of the glazing, but it it considerably cheaper. This is Marrazzi 3” x 12” ceramic tile in LuxeCraft Blue available at HD, also much more affordable, and you can pick it up yourself, so you know, no shipping cost. The point I’m making is you get what you pay for. I totally understand what a shock the freight charge can be, but order a sample of the Heath tile and you may decide it’s worth it. Or not....See MoreZellige "look" tile recommendations
Comments (44)I don't know if this matters to anyone, but I thought I would share. I was planning on using Zellige tiles for our upcoming bathroom renovation. I ordered samples from Cle and Zia and also a few other local places that carry Zellige. We tested the tiles for the presence of lead and they were all extremely high for lead levels, other than the unglazed options (which would require sealing). The test kit only detects lead at levels of at LEAST 600 ppm and these all tested immediately positive, so that is the very least amount they have. I would venture to say the are much higher than that based on the test. I wanted to share this, as I would have been extremely upset had I installed these and learned afterward....See MoreCan anyone who has installed zellige tile tell me if this is normal?
Comments (22)Who ordered and received the tiles? That’s who should have inspected them all, and reordered if they felt they were defective. Once they’re installed. There’s no recourse. You own the issue. It has nothing to do with the installation. It’s all in the tile. Tilers install what they are given. They don’t know what you ordered or how it “should” look. Just an FYI... This is a common, and often repeated, myth. It is not correct. You have a duty to limit the damages of other parties in a contract. You can't install tile that you suspect may be defective and pawn it off on someone else's duty to inspect the tiles. If a reasonable person in the profession and/or providing the services that you are performing would question the quality of materials being installed then you have an affirmative duty to stop work until you have verification. That duty is a staple of contract law in all U.S. states and most other countries....See MoreZellige tile experience
Comments (6)@L C, checking in on your installation. We are looking to have a Zellige Tile backsplash. However, when looking at the Cle Tile as an option. We came across the below warning in their Zellige tile specifications, about placing the tile behind an oven. We will have a Thermador oven that we've read about a good amount of people having discoloration and scorching of Quartz and Marble from the rear vent. We've also reached out to Cle Tile, Riad, and Zia Tile, which they all seem to not have any information of the below issue. We're trying to find out if this is a Cle Tile specific issue, or something that happens with all Zellige tiles. Just wondering if you've observed any issues? Maybe Riad has better quality tiles?...See MoreRelated Professionals
