Carpet shade to match two different warm flooring types

Carpet on stairs needs to be replaced. I can't afford hardwood and actually carpet is safer for us. Looking at a full loop-pile in a solid color right now. Patterns feel too busy against the two adjacent flooring types. There's wood at the top of the stairs that looks either espresso/violet or warm brown/red depending on the light. At the bottom, there's warm tile that goes pink/peach or yellow/gold in the changing light. I'm really struggling to find a shade that meshes with the two floors and will be dark enough for heavy traffic. Once the carpet is replaced, everything will be painted so that's not a consideration. I'll post photos in the comment section. The few samples shown are just a starting point.

If the chevron was a good color I don't think that would be a bad choice. It might look busy to you because it's different than what you have now, but perfectly acceptable for stairs. I bought carpet not too long ago and it seems like tweady colors are popular - two or more different colors mixed (in a subtle way - really just different shades of the same color). You might have better luck with something like that instead of a solid. Bring home as many sample boards as they will let you take at a time and broaden your scope to include things that are different, like the chevron pattern.

I would do a pttern on the stair treads to take your eye away form the 2 colors of flooring. I like a very flat weave for stair treads and those pictures hung in the stairwell are not looking good at all you need some sort of plan there if you must hang them there at all. I see you ar eplanning to apint what color are you planning.?

It's really hard to match stain color across wood species. It will take a lot of trial and error, and in all likelihood not match perfectly. A near match is often worse IMO. It might be better to go for a complimenting stain, like staining the stairs dark like the darker grains in the hardwood.

Color info can be confusing but you have been given some good info above. This additional info may help: what does hue mean? hue means color, i.e. red, yellow, blue. Value means lightness or darkness. Baby blue is a pale or light blue; navy blue is a dark blue. Chroma means: does this color absorb light (look dark) or does it reflect light (look light). These aspects of paint are what make up the color and therefore make the difference in the look. If you are interested in the best white for your room, and you are uncertain which they are , check out the colors named above. They are some of the most used and best white colors from BM. Buying large color samples, or buying a small can of paint for $7 and painting it on your wall is the surest way of finding what you like. Or you can just call Gil Shaefer and ask. I did that years ago with a decorator I saw in Architectural Digest....and we had a lively chat.

We just took out 500 sq ft of tile, like yours. Did it ourselves, rented a jack hammer from HD. Though it was pia job, it didnt cost a whole lot, just time and effort. Saving from this DIY went toward new hardwood and professional install. Next project is tearing out 900 sq ft glued down carpet on cement slab, cant wait…!

What are the stairs going to look like? I like real tile in bathrooms because you can't beat it for water resistance and cleanability. I also like porcelain tile instead of real marble. I only use real marble for vanity tops in the primary bath. Marble is more delicate than porcelain, but if you don't mind an imperfect look (scratches and stains may come over time) it can be lovely. The dark gray porcelain you showed is a good choice. White is not a good choice for a floor color IMO. If the bathroom(s) are small be careful not to do anything too busy. Over the course of remodeling several bathrooms I discovered the easiest way to maintain a consistent look is to choose one type and color of tile and then use different sizes of it throughout. Then there are no issues with matching. If you want a standout element it should only be on one surface. There can only be one star. :-) The design of a bathroom has to consider all elements together. Have you looked at pictures on Houzz to determine what you like and what style you will be trying to achieve?

Just an fyi, that is not a terrazzo tile. It is a stone-look or more likely a Travertine-look porcelain tile.

I think you are looking at carpet that is too taupe and does not go with the tile. You need more warm/gold colors.

PCC, the gallery wall has come down in sections as I have the storage capacity for the frames. Nothing will be up there after painting. I am looking to do paint selection after the carpet color is decided. More tortured decisions to come!

Do you mean patterned in multi colored or more monochromatic with texture? I liked a solid one with a chevron but I thought it would be dizzying to look down on.

You need to choose your wall paint at the same time. Once you know what paint colors you are using in both areas it will be easier to find a carpet color that works. Choose a wall color that is warmer for downstairs and more neutral for upstairs. Carpet with slight variation like you currently have is great for stairs and will help connect the spaces.

I had an easier time naming my children than picking out paint colors, but I will try to do that first. Thanks!
