best paint removal process for fancy trim?
Comments (1)I use a heat gun. If you decide to use this method, choose one that isn't too heavy for you to hold for a couple of hours. You'll need to find a variety of scrapers you feel comfortable with. My favorite is a small, not very sharp chisel. You'll probably want to start on the front of your house, but I'd suggest you start in a less obvious area until you get comforable with the process. I keep a drop cloth under the area I am working in and dispose of the scrapings each day. I wipe the wood down after each session and vacuum any dust and debris that might have missed the drop cloth. I have a good mask, but I admit to not always using it. You'll also want to wear eye protection. I'm sure lots of others will offer more good advice and share what has worked for them. Comments (3)Thanks for the advice. I am glad to know I'm not crazy for wanting to push ahead with the oak. I think I am going ahead with the wood windows and doors, but trim the windows in white. The doors already have white trim, so they should probably match. I figure if I choose this route, it will match until I can replace all of the trim in a room at once. I don't understand why everyone is so obsessed with putting in white windows and doors. They might be timeless, but they are a huge pain to maintain given all the dirt they'd show. And in a historic home, wood really feels like the best choice. Plus if I hate it, I can always paint my wood windows and doors white....See MoreRemove Paint from Trim
Comments (1)Is your trim painted as well? Or is it natural wood? Getting it off the laminate flooring should be easy - scrape with some sort of plastic scraper, such as a cheap plastic putty knife....See MorePainted Trim - decorate room & remove the oak trim! Pics below (4)
Comments (18)Consider a warm white paint, that is on trend, and would lower the contrast between the oak and the walls........possibly a blend of the lightest color in your sofa? find a rug that is done in a tweed effect; cost effective and lots of choices that will work with the warm oak trim. Also you have a lot of room on either side of the fireplace; consider putting the TV on either side down low over a console? Or if you are considering new furniture place the TV on another entirely and see about doing a sectional that embraces the new TV location and the fireplace. win win. Some examples of TV to side of fireplace in rooms with multiple windows and some nice furniture arrangements. Go big or go home!...See MoreRosefolly
