Would love ideas on entry decor (pic)
Comments (23)Okay, I'm back! First, let me thank you so much for all the ideas. You have no idea how much I appreciate them. I also would like to thank you for your patience if I'm a little slow catching on. I went out to Kirklands Home today to buy a couple things for the living room (another disaster area) and I met up with a teacher friend of mine. She's got the Summer off and her and her best friend said they love to decorate and we are planning to get together in a couple weeks. I'm so excited!! Anyway, I bought the coat rack and put it where the chair was and cleared out a few things. Maybe you can give me yet some more ideas on where to go with this? Thanks so much! Here's the stuff I cleared, can I reuse any of them? Please excuse the nosey cat....See MoreNeed help w/ Garden Bed Plant placement
Comments (10)The biggest problem I see here is that the bed will appear completely empty for a significant portion of the year when the perennials are all dormant and below ground. This is not a good look nor is it the slightest bit inviting for a front entry garden. It will also invite a lot of weed development. There is a landscape design rule of thumb that states that an entry planting should look as uniform as possible year round, which means you need to have a predominance of plants with a year round presence. That's evergreens, either small broadleafed evergreen shrubs or dwarf conifers (needled evergreens). There are also a few evergreen perennials or those that hold their foliage/have a presence year round that could be included but not knowing where in the world you might be located, I can't make any specific suggestions. The other suggestion is to avoid planting anything in rows. It is not a natural look and tends to look contrived. Plant in sweeps/drifts or clusters....See MoreI need help to decorate my rustic garden. Please
Comments (7)Cristian, You've got some good things to work with. What a nice place to live. I could give you a lot of suggestions if you like. One of the things to start with before you start looking at decoration would be to make some beds and plant them out. Then, you can put those items in spots with your plants growing up around it if that makes sense. On the top picture of the flowers (tulips I think) in a row, I think you need to give some thought to the way plants grow in nature. Clumps. And possibly staggered. A good rule of thumb is to allow the depth of 5' for beds around your house. That allows for a background plant and one lower to put in frown. Is that the back or front of the house? Do you know what growing zone you are in? I don't know much about Romania or it's weather. I'm in Central Texas, but would be glad to send you some seeds if you'd be interested. Can you email me directly? Xtal...See MoreNeed help with plant / decor advice for front entrance
Comments (8)Notice how Doug has removed the narrow planting beds near the door to create a generous entrance porch. I would also widen the walk out to the drive so the two people could walk abreast. Keep the plantings with only a few types of plants, including something bright (either foliage or flowers) flanking the entrance porch where it meets the walkway as Yardvaark’s suggested. That can be in pots or in the ground. You want large enough swaths of plants for most of the plantings so that so they will read well from the road as well as looking nice from the near view. Plantings should be low enough so that they don’t block the sight lines to the door and so folks on the sidewalk don’t feel like they have to try to avoid brushing up against encroaching plants....See MoreRelated Professionals
