Need help selecting a FL washer/dryer
Comments (3)Hi Eric...it's difficult out there, isn't it. I'm still using my Whirlpool top loader of 15 years but if I were to forced to buy a new washer tomorrow, first I would buy from a mom & pop type of store. They are more apt to stand behind their product after the sale and keep you happy (they can't afford bad word of mouth). From my research the Korean machines (like LG, Samsung etc.) are harder to get service/parts for and therefore times for repairs may take a longer time. I've heard of not so great customer service when issues arise with the Korean machines. The Korean machines do look very sleek, I'll give them that. It seems that Whirlpool and Electrolux/Frigidaire have been at this (laundry) business the longest and have vested more time and research at making their machines better. They have better distribution with parts and service and therefore better repair times. Frigidaire seems to have the fastest cycle times but remember adding or subtracting options (extra rinse, low soil level etc.) will alter wash times. Most new front load washers have a pretty substantial tub size so that shouldn't be an issue no matter what you choose. You will get more cycle choices with any new front loader washer and dryer. You may want a "Bulky" cycle for comforters or a "Hand Wash" for extremely delicate items or a "Soak" cycle for really dirty items. The "Steam" cycle is more important in the washer than the dryer. Steam helps with really stubborn stains or to kill bacteria or allergens. I wouldn't say you need it but it may come in handy now and then. The thing with a "Steam" cycle is it can add a substantial amount of time to the cycle. If the machine has a "Sanitary" cycle then you really don't need a Steam cycle. Most people hardly even us the Steam cycle if they have one. As far as steam in the dryer, it's only good for relaxing wrinkles or freshening up clothes. (you can mimic this by throwing a damp towel in with already dried clothes you wish to freshen up). If you don't mind a miss matched set you can get yourself a standard Whirlpool dryer, the type with the "hamper" style door (door that opens down, not to the side). Those are very much still a very reliable machine. Or get the matching washer & dryer set and get the basic dryer. I would pay more for the washer with more features than the dryer. The dryer just needs to tumble clothes with a variety of heat settings (low, medium, high and or medium high, medium low etc.). If you look at Electrolux/Frigidaire know that Electrolux offers more higher end machines with more bells, whistles, features, cycles, higher top spin speed, larger drum and Frigidaire's are more economical (less features, slower top spin speed, less cycles, smaller drum). Do a side by side comparison of Whirlpool and Electrolux and Frigidaire and see if they offer features you want or don't want. I'm sure you'll get some other advice here and will make for some good reading. Best of luck. Keep us informed of what you decide....See MoreMy dog licks obsessively- Please help
Comments (21)Your vet may not have the unflavored HW preventative in stock. You may want to call ahead to give them time to order it or write you a script to get it online. You shouldn't feel bad at all about not wanting to do the allergy testing. It is really only useful if you are going to put your dog on allergy shots. The tests are not reliable for testing for food allergies (by the labs' own admission), so they would likely only tell you which varieties of trees and grasses your dog is allergic to. I do suggest that you consider a thyroid test though. Hypothyroidism can trigger allergies. Trying to solve allergies without treating an underlying thyroid problem will be like beating your head against the wall. The testing can cost ~ $100, but the treatment is easy, cheap and might just cure his itching, ear problems, and low energy. I disagree with joepyeweed about cutting down on baths to avoid soaps. Baths are a great tool to decrease the amount of pollen on your dogs fur. The best shampoo to use would one provided by your vet that is designed to help with allergy symptoms. You just want to make sure to rinse well and get him well dried afterwards....See MoreThoughts on Whirlpool WFL98HEBU washer
Comments (40)The WGD98HEBU is discontinued for sure. That's the matching gas dryer. Not available anywhere. The washing machine and electric dryer may or may not be discontinued but they are easy to find. I want the washer and the has dryer so looks like I am SOL. If anyone can confirm that a store has the gas dryer in stock please let me know. Just because it shows in stock online doesn't mean it is, I called three chains that showed it in stock online but they did not have any. Not even floor models. Comments (68)I was good friends with a girl in elementary school that had a severe peanut allergy. We were in 2nd and 3rd grade grade back in 1958/1959. People were well aware of allergies back then. She knew she had to avoid not only nuts but other items that may have nuts in them. Her mother was a nurse and didn't obsess over her allergy. Simply took common sense precautions. Nestle's Krisp candy bars packed in her lunch instead of Mr. Good candy bars, ice cream "crunch" bars that didn't get the crunch part from nuts etc. The only time I remember an incident was when she used a knife to spread something at a Xmas party that had just been used for peanut butter and someone had wiped off enough to look clean but still have some residue on it. She had an allergic reaction, mom took her to the ER to be given a shot ( probably adrenaline) checked over and that was that. No drama, no hysteria over peanut dust or smell. No demanding peanuts be banned in the classroom or cafeteria. Allergies have always been with us. A lot of the increase today may be due to a number of environmental things but recent studies show the epidemic is may well be in one's head or due to misdiagnoses. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/an-overreaction-to-food-allergies/ https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/food-allergies-facts-myths-and-pseudoscience/...See More- 9 months agolast modified: 9 months ago
